  • Occoquan Crappie on Sunday 1/13

    Good Morning!

Martin and I (and possibly Asef - Financeguru) are planning on fishing the Occoquan for Crappie on Sunday. Morning temperature is expected to be around 54 degrees (warmer than Saturday) with winds projected at 5 MPH.

We'll be meeting at the ramp around 7:30am and launching within the half hour.

On a side note, I finally got a fish finder that I'm eager to try out (Humminbird 587ci DI HD) and some smelly jelly! I'm probably more excited about the smelly jelly though! Martin and I (and Asef) are going to experiment with it, see if the legends are true!

After not finding it at local stores, I ended up getting it from tacklewarehouse.com. With shipping ($6+) the final price was a few cents cheaper than the other places online. Going off of Comeonfish's advice (Thanks again Joe) I got the bass feast which is crawfish and garlic flavor. If anyone is interested here is the link to it:

Back to Occoquan, If anyone is interested in joining us the address is:
9751 Ox Road Lorton, VA 22079

    Launch fee is $4

I will be there to take advantage of the warm weather. In addition to fishing, kayaking is good excercise without the dread factor.

I might be able to make it although am unsure about being able to get a ride there. If I did go I would probabally get there at 10. If I do go mabey we could test out Smelly Jelly vs. the homemade scents I made side-by-side.

Sounds like a plan. High tide is at 8am or there abouts.

            Do-able on Sunday

            AbuMasgouf,

I am not paying if the office is closed. It is their fault. I am planning to buy the season pass ($40 last year) at the office. The season pass is good for all regional park, including Algonkian and Pohick Bay. I fished more than 25 times in the regional parks last year

Minh, Sounds like a good plan bro!

Joe, hopefully you'll be able to come! I bought my pass last year around October and it's valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.

Mike S, it'll be a pleasure to meet you bro!

There is a bait store you can buy minnow

If you want to use minnow

                          call the store
                          learn the float stopper knot
4 #test mono is the best not 6#
                          get weighted bobbers

**** Soak the mono line (whole spool) the day before with water - this softens the mono line (less tagling problem)

                            Mustafa,

Check with the park to see if gate will be open at that time. And also with Dawson on their store hours.

I called the park and they said that their official winter hours are 8am until dark......however, they have a night watchman who leaves at 6am and is instructed to leave the gates open for boaters on weekends. So it should be no issue getting into the park for 7 or 7:30am on Sunday.
