any suggestions for the next M&G on Nov. 13?

How about the Cambridge area. There are good numbers of rockfish in that area of the Choptank. If the wind blows, there are always areas upstream in the Choptank that will be protected.

I would suggest the Potomac above Harpers Ferry, but alittle rain that time of year will make for a wash out. That may be best for next summer during the dry months.

There has also been alot of talk of St. Jeromes Creek. Are there any good bars or pubs nearby for after the fishing. Just the talk of redfish makes one curious.

Of course there is always the inlet and back bay of Ocean City.

The only problem with St. Jerome's is that most of the action is by the mouth. It's a long haul to deeper water if the action is slow. Plus, it can be crowded on Saturdays, though maybe not in November.

I was kind of thinking an evening trip to Point Lookout might be good. The time will have changed then, so the topwater bite will be around 5pm, or so. What I don't know is if the water will have cooled off enough for the stripers to move to deeper water by then. However, trolling the oyster sanctuary on the Bay side could still be productive, and the light tower on the Potomac side is supposed to be good for a fish or two. If the water is still above 55-58*, redfish could still be around according to the manager at the Tacklebox.

Another thought is an evening trip to Piney Point. There are several topwater spots there, there's the Stewart's Pier for jigging, and trollers do well in the channel near the pier. There are a couple places to launch depending on where you want to fish. Also, there still might be perch in the creek if it's rough.

I really only fish freshwater in November. There are some deep holes in the Nanjemoy that are supposed to hold catfish and yellow perch. I didn't have much luck there a few years ago, but a couple guys I talked with caught some nice largemouth.

I checked the Potomac water temperatures for November 2008 and 2009. It looks like it was solidly in the 55-58* range. I'm not sure if that means the shallow water bite is over or not.

what about some where south to give the guys a break from having to drive to the Eastern shore( I've been spoiled with all three locations). If it gets to cold how about a challege and throwing in some fresh water. Also Chris at Kent Island kayak said he will give the members of are group a 10% discount.

Here's a vote for somewhere along the South River. Plenty of restaurants nearby. I've seen some discussions about it in other threads. I think Dogfish has the inside scoop here. Is this a good time of year for rockfish in that area?

Personally, I can't do a long distance trip on the 13th as we have evening plans that day. This would be about the extent of my range. What we do need is a "captain" to organize the group, pick a launch site, restaurant, etc. Any volunteers out there?

I agree, would be great to visit someplace closer this time. I vote for the bridge, south river, or somewhere else close.

Here's another vote for somewhere relatively close. Recent and impending home and car repairs are costing me money AND time. I hoping November will be more forgiving than the past few months...

The South River is good for rockfish. The only thing is a place for a large group to lauch from. I launch from a community marina. Such a large group would take up the parking lot and the slip holders would not go for that. I'll check but its questionable. There is also a park on the Selby side of the river. I saw it on an online map. I'll check that out for a location. There is Quiet Waters park, but that is too far to paddle to get to productive water for fishing. We can keep the South River open as a possibility.

Well, I went to the Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks site. The place I was thinking of is Mayo Beach Park. However, it is by rental only. The good news is the launch area is open for individuals from April 1 of the year by permit, for car top lauch. So this may be a good place for people to launch throughout the year. How the launch permit works, I'm not sure. The contact information is on the County web site. For the County, everything is by permit. This may be an option for some on an individual basis next year. From the photos on the web site, I recognize the area from when I go out on the kayak. It is near good fishing waters.

I will check with our community about the marina, but that is questionable. I would suggest our community beach, but that is closed to canoe, kayak and windsurer launch as of Nov. 1. They love the waterfowl. I know, I know, its silly. There are a couple of swans that hang out in that area in the winter and you would think they are an endangered spieces. People feed them. What people don't know is that if you feed those things corn, nothing would chase them away. It must be the Disney affect or something.

Talked to Mike at Buzz's and there are reds out there, most are rats and oversized, tho I did see 1 slsot keeper come in last week

Thanks for the info. I found this park doing a google earth search as well...I also wondered whatthe deal was. I saw the application online. They have two annual permit options costing either $30 or $45.

The waters off the Mayo Beach Park is good fishing water. As you would launch, straight out is the open bay. To the left is the South River, which is good fishing and to the right is the mouth of the West River, which is also good fishing. It would be well worth the annual fee to launch for an entire season. For individuals wanting another place to launch, it is worth the fee for an entire fishing season. You launch directly into good fishing water.
