  • ice on the Pax or Mattawoman?

Has anyone been to the Patuxent or Matt woman lately? I was wonder if there was a lot of ice on the off chance I can get out this weekend.

    Bill -

I cannot comment on the southern Maryland waters. Last Sunday I reported that most of the Severn tributaries were ice-covered. To my pleasant surprise, there was hardly any trace of ice on Wed afternoon. With the cooler weather Thurs and today, and very cold weather expected tonight, some of the water will freeze up again.

Unfortunately, Bill, I have been unable to fish for a while- business travel has kept me out of Maryland so I have no idea of water conditions- I have a kayak trip in Mosquito Lagoon on the 23rd with Rob Duerscheidt sight casting for tailing reds- hope the weather is good-

I cross the 225 bridge every day on the way to my son's day care. It had been frozen over up until the really warm days this past week and it wasn't frozen over this morning when i crossed, however, with the colder temperature i'm not 100% sure. (I'm guessing it won't be frozen over) but I'll be passing by tomorrow morning so I'll be able to give a better update then.

Thanks for the info, gents. I was really hoping the warm weather would last to the weekend. I found out last night that the in-laws are coming for a visit today, but maybe I can sneak out tomorrow.

I'm jealous, Ron. All my travel lately has been to Maine where the water way more frozen than here. Good luck.

Bill- I have a Coho/Chinook/Steehead trip in April to the Columbia basin outside Portland and a Halibut/Salmon Alaska trip in August-

If you get to Astoria any time Dave Steele is a great guide- catches fish and is fun to be around-very knowledgable- comfortable equipment- very professional-

I haven't been to these waters for years so can't really comment. Its been very cold up here in the Catoctin Mountains the past 2 nights, lower teens F. But if there was strong wind down in these waters that may have been enough to kept skim-ice from forming in all but the most sheltered coves. Even though, its going to be a crap shoot.

Sooo... you've been to Maine recently, huh. If you have to spend any more time in Maine this summer anywhere near the mouth of the Kennebec, late July to the first 2 weeks of August, give me a call and maybe we can get together for some striper or lmbass action. I'll be up there then.

My aunt lives on the Patuxent River down in Huntingtown, MD and I had to watch her dogs while she was on a ski trip last weekend and the water was not frozen over. Hope this helps!

Bill, I thought about fishing Sunday but......I am pretty excited about the Ravens and decided to put out a spread for the game instead. HOWEVER, I ahve purchased some gear in hopes of trout fishing with you and Ron like we did last year. Think we'll be able to make that happen soon??

Thanks for the info, gents, especially the Maine info. I'll definitely be back in May and hope to fish then. I'm not sure about July, but it's a possibility.

The in-laws came on Saturday, and my wife got sick on Sunday. Oh well. I'm traveling next week, so I hope I can fish on one of the weekends.

I'll definitely be up for a stocked trout trip. I'm not sure when they start stocking. I still want to do a winter cat trip, too. So many trips, so little time.

Yeah, Bill, I hear you on traveling- I am flying back early tomorrow from Amarillo to Dallas to Oklahoma City to BWI- I am thinking the stocking should be the last week of the month pretty much like last year-

They just posted the schedule a few weeks ago.

Gilbert Run gets stocked the end of March.
