    Good read and good advice.

I guess Humminbirds & Lowrance differ in the direction the info crosses the screen. My humminbird go right to left.

Ill double check at work today but im pretty sure on it. I prefer lowrance over humminbird mainly because the mapping is soo precise and specific built in from the factory that u can buy a unit hook it up and fish the bay inland ocean city ( and a little ways out) potomac susky etc without needing a navionics card (anywhere from 150 to 200 bucks). Its called an enhanced base map. Pretty sweet stuff. And if ya guys are coming by bass pro anytime soon check out the elite 7 hdi. Lowrance finally made a unit with down scan sonar and gps all in 1 transducer for 699.99 reg price!

Yeah...the "unimap" that comes loaded on the Humminbird units is pretty useless.

If you want to go with a temporary install then you can use a scotty mount to attach the fish finder to the modpod, a waterproof dry box or bag stuck in the compartment of the sonar shield to hold your AA's or small lead acid battery, and then use the swap program from hummingbird to install the transducer in the scupper. All the wires, and battery would go under the sonar shield and you can pop the head unit off when you transport.

As for connection maintenance, dielectric grease (silicone based) or fluid film are the best to use on you connectors. Also, plugging the unused ports with a glob of dielectric grease and then duct seal will go a long way for keeping your unit alive.
          Used to fish more.

would be great if I had a smart phone but I plan fishing with others when I go on open waters so I think it will be fine but when I do I will definitely look into it.

I have owned numerous Lowrance units since the mid-1990s. All of them had the new images appearing on the right and moving to the left.
