Does anyone have any info on where to catch a few white perch in the Severn? My freezer is empty. If I can make it, I will most likely launch from the Navy Yard since I have a trailer.

Count me in for WP fishing as well. I'm excited about the Pickerel, at the same time it would be nice to take some WP home for the family-Mustafa

We are two days out from the meet & greet. I have tried to keep track of the folks who said they were definitely coming and those who might participate. The list is part of the original post in this thread -- by my count we could have up to 24 anglers. I talked with several others guys at the flea market last Sat who said they might come if they can get a fishing pass for the day. You guys are welcome too.
Having stated an interest to participate does not obligate you to join the group on Sat, but it does help me get a head count for the restaurant. I request that those of you who know now that they: a) will definitely come to lunch, or b) will definitely not come to lunch send a personal message to me or send an email to john@veilenvironmental. I plan to stop by there this afternoon and make preliminary arrangements.
Here are a few logistical comments.
1) As I noted on an earlier post, the Annapolis Striders running club meets at Jonas Green on Sat mornings before taking off on a training run. They typically fill most of the lower parking lot with their vehicles. I coordinated with their leaders, who have been very cooperative. They advised their members that we will be coming this Sat and requested that their members park in the upper lot. I'm sure there will be some interactions between the runners and our members. Since we are all out to get some exercise and enjoy being outdoors, lets show as much cooperation and patience as possible with their group.
2) At last month's Susquehanna River meet & greet, most of the fishing occurred in the main stem of the river. The target species (yellow perch) exists in schools. Fishing side-by-side is not an issue in scaring the fish. The participants could keep track of the other anglers visually. However, when fishing this time of year in the Severn River, most of the fishing will take place in the shallow sections of the tributaries. Realistically, if 10, 15, or more anglers come into the same tributary at the same or shortly after the last angler fished there, the amount of fish caught will not be great. The fish are susceptible to noise, including paddle and turbofin splashes, banging of gear onto the hull of your kayak (dropping a pliers on the floor), etc. The first one or two anglers to work an area will find fish, but those who come by an hour later may not. With that in mind, and given the large number of anglers participating, I suggest that those of you with the most energy and paddling range head upstream or downstream and work some of the more distant creeks and coves. You stand a better chance of being the first angler to work an area that day. Hopefully some of the more experienced Severn pickerel catchers can show the ropes to the newer guys.
3) Here is map of the Severn that I posted several times over the past two years. It shows three launching spots and multiple creeks/coves within a 1.5-mile radius of one of the launch spots. All are spots where I have found pickerel this winter or last winter.

4) At some of the previous meet & greet events, there has been a lure raffle. Anyone interested in entering the raffle brings one lure or comparable piece of moderately priced tackle or gear. All who enter get a raffle ticket. The winner takes home the lures. There will be a similar raffle event this time too. You can enter either at Jonas Green during the morning, or at the restaurant at lunch. If we have more than 10 entrants, I will split the prizes into 2 batches to allow two winners.
Finally, lets be safe out there. The water is still cold -- according to NOAA's data buoy in the Severn, the water temp is 39 deg at 9:00 am Thurs. Windfinder.com shows Saturday winds from the N/NW ranging from 6-9 throughout the morning. If anyone needs to reach me either on land beforehand or while on the water, call my cell phone at 410-212-0950.John Veil
