Well, I finally got the yak in the water for the first time this year. Over the winter I installed a Lowrance X-4 pro and built a new set of rod holders out of 1 1/4 CPVC. It holds three rods and has two trolling arms. So, I got to get close to the FF and try out the new rod holders. It was a great day although I caught nada! The FF saw fish (if you can believe it), but they weren't interested in my white or chartruse shad tails or spinner baits. However, I did manage to plot the area where I intend to do a lot of trout fishing near the grass beds at the mouth of the Patuxent on the Navy base side. The ff worked perfectly in water from 2-23ft. (That lets me know I installed it properly). It read the water temp a little high, but that's understandable from a hull mount. The tide runs about 1.5 feet here, so I now have a good idea of where I can get the Hobie at low tide. The one down side of the turbo drive is that it limits me to about 2 ft of water. (I'm a peddler, not a paddler).

Nice...we always had luck with Croaker and Spot there. I didn't realize that trout hung around there also. Did you put in on PAX?

Lots of Croaker, Spot, Snapper Blues and Rocks when the season is right. Less when it comes to the Trout; but I think that's because not many people fish for them. I put in on the Navy base just prior to beach house, if you are familiar. I head out under the longest wooden bridge in America to the grass flats and out through a small opening to the Patuxent. If you can't get on base, you'll have to put in quite a way up near the TJ bridge.

Getting on base is no problem. Do they require a rec pass or anything? I know a few years ago they started requiring people to get one if they were going to crab/fish from the pier.

If you can get on the base you can launch. I haven't dealt with rec services in quite some time. I talk to folks fishing and crabbing a lot during the summer and don't remember anything about having to get any permits.

Thanks for the info. I fished the fresh water ponds on PAX a lot with my father back in the 90's. I was killing time a few months ago driving around and saw where they drained Holton Lake. Bit disappointing since that was considered a trohpy lake by DNR.
