  • For those that think Hobie is expensive

Now there is the Volt. Runs 6mph for up to 30 hours has GPS and a home button with auto pilot to take you back to the launch. At screaming deal at just $3,995. I think I might order 2!

A true lazy man's kayak. Now you can just lay back and drink a beer while you're taken back on autopilot.

I know right! Buy I drink cheap beer, and this is not a cheap kayak. That's what I tell the DNR, right? "Honest officer, it's on auto-polit. I'm not driving drunk." LOL

Man, you guys have more money than me to think this is cheap. Or maybe it two kids with one in college and another getting close.

Hey, I almost do that now, minus the autopilot.

Besides, I get all my exercise reeling in fish!

Too many electronics that increase the margin of error. It also kinda loses the point of being a kayak and not very practical for $4k.

Tell me ......... what exactly is the point of being a Kayak ........ You have a REVO. It's not made of seal skin and you don't use it to hunt whales .... You pedal it instead of paddling it and you probably have a GPS on it instead of a compass and a star chart. The point of being a kayak is different to everyone and I hate it when someone starts judging that.

That Yak is practical for $4 grand to a bunch of people ....in fact it is cheap to alot of the guys here including me .... especially the 1's that want the range and safety that an engine brings. It's funny when you're enjoying a cool 1 motoring along slowing down for the guys that are sweating their behinds off paddling/pedaling against the tide and waves. I bought mine after I pedalled hard for 2 miles against 2 ft whitecapped waves and a 25 mph direct headwind ....... made very slow progress for alot of effort. Russ bought his motor after seeing mine. Doc ....... well he doesn't want 1 ........ he likes sweating it with everything ........ including putting together home theater systems ....... the older I get ...... the more I like comfort so the motor and toys are good for me at this time ......... could change my mind later. That's why I have 2 yaks ...... 1 decked out and the other spartan.

I enjoy all of the electronics and the engines and toys. You like it spartan ....... that's great ........ I don't judge yours.

A Kayak is not a poor man's boat .... at least not to me ..... it offers a ton of advantages over the larger boats ......... I have several boats ...... a bass/crabbing boat and a center console and a canoe. I really haven't used the Yaks that I have or the boats the last couple of years because of alot of reasons ..... till now. This year I plan to use it alot more because I think I finally have it the way I like it.

The point is that there is no "point of being a Kayak" in my opinion ......... it's different for everyone and that's the great thing about the Yak ........ it is versatile enough to be different to everyone that uses it. It's also what makes this site so good ......... a bunch of Yakin Bros sharing the sport and each to his own ....... everyone learning from everyone else.

I merely stated my opinion so I apologize for offending you. You said it yourself, everyone has a different opinion and welcome to it on this site (i expressed mine) so no need to get defensive Not judging anyone or implying anything that. Its your choice, your money and your opinion.

Again, to me, a kayak has that self propelled characteristic and kind of loses that when you go motorized. Again, not knocking anyone with one, a bit envious but not for me.

No need to apologize ....... you didn't offend me ........ and I'm not trying to be defensive. Just stating that there isn't 1 type or reason for being a Kayak. It's different for everyone and that's what makes it great .......... it's what makes this site great .......the diversity.

I like that there are more and more options for kayaking these days.

That concept for the power pod is kinda neat.

I'm not sure how comfortable that seat looks.
