On the water by 9:30, headed to the light house.I bought a couple eels in case I couldn't catch any spot.I hooked the eel under a big bobber so I could float it around the lighthouse.Mean while I fished bws.Nothing hit the eel but the bws caught, two 16" stripers and 6 smaller ones,A dozen perch, five decent ones I kept and about a dozen spot.I tried live lining the spot but no hits.Didn't see any blue action.Tried some lures but nada they wanted the bloods. It was windy and choppy so I stayed anchored and tried to absorb some of that sun.

Nice job, gents. You guys are tougher than I am. I tried to avoid the wind as much as possible by hitting the Pax, then I quit when it really picked up.
In other news, I ran into Mike and Christie from Buzz's today, and they said there were breaking rockfish from the mouth of St. Jerome's to almost PLO yesterday, and the wind didn't pick up until 3pm. I thought about launching there but was worried about the wind/waves. Grrr...Yellow Hobie Revo Rube Goldberg

Thanks for the report. There is excellent fishing in that area. Some of those lumps hold alot of perch. I use to fish off Podickery Point. We use to catch jumbo perch there, the kind with the black backs, really large.
Sounds like everybody is joining the perch patrol. Even the South River, for those who like perch, is a good perch river. Anyone with the wear-with-all to paddle out to the lighthouse, you can catch good numbers of rock and perch by casting under the light house. There is an edy under the lighthouse, because it is between the two large rock piles, which protect the lighthouse from ice.
I was talking to a guy today, who told me that there have been studies, which show that rockfish turn on their instinctive feeding binge at 56 degrees water temperature. At that temperature in the fall is when their instinctive senses tell them to start putting on weight for winter. This is when the fish go all out to put on weight. I have been fishing along time but have never heard that one. I have always thought that when the water starts a steady drop that started the fish feeding. I always thought that October was part of that time. Who knows, sunlight or length of day triggers birds to migrate. Anyway I found that interesting, so I thought I would pass it on.

Good report. It should all out now. Me and the missus were out in the boat Saturday. Lots of birds and lots of dinks over by Poplar. No quality fish. When the wind kicked up in the afternoon it was time to head in. 3 and 4 footers out there! But there were still plenty of breakers going on.
From my surf days up north I am aware of that mid-50's water temp being prime time for stripers. Down to about 48 then they move or shut down. Always the best time for fall stripers is between Halloween and Thanksgiving. Unless an ice storm comes along and chills the water quickly.
