  • Hitting the Potomac Tomorrow afternoon...

Turns out I'm free tomorrow afternoon. Gonna launch out of Ft. Washington Marina tomorrow afternoon. Going for blue cats again. Hunting the big ones, if they're around to cooperate. Meat wrangling the eating size ones. Open invite to any who may want to join.

I get off work in college park at noon. I have to make a bait stop...will probably hit the launch by 1. Planning to launch no later that 2pm.

    Bring cut bait.

If you wanna join me, let me know.

Hey metro, do you anchor up or drift? I will be in the area, and if I am still up for it, will be there. Where do you get that mackerel at?

Hey metroman, I would like to join you for some catching of the blues. How you do you rig up your lines? And what test do you use?

In the past, I've anchored for cat fishing for the best results. The current allowed for a slow drift this morning, which worked...but I had my anchor.

While the potential for moster blue cats exists, you can get away with 15-17lb line just fine. I used heavier braid, but lighter line would have been just fine. I used a "snafu rig" yesterday? I learned that rig from my last sea bass trip...feel free to google it. Otherwise, ANY RIG will work for blue cats, so don't worry about trying to be too fancy. Just get bait on the bottom, and ur good.

I got the mackerel from the international market in new Carrollton. I have no problem bringing enough bait for others if necessary since I'm already going there.

I think I will be using 10 lb mono with a simple steel (double hook) rig. I can chip in for those mackerels if you'd like. Is there a launch fee at the marina?

I will be there early in the morning, not sure if I will stay late. I was just wondering where a person would get some.

Thats on the light side. I have an extra setup for you to use if you hook into something decent and it breaks you off.

gotcha. Yeah...any oily fish will work just fine. I was actually looking for shad when I went there for the bait. Ended up getting mackerel & mullet.

Metroman, just met up with mytmouse to pick up a kayak seat from him.
If I can borrow one of your set ups, that'll be awesome. I am still in the learning phase of kayak fishing, but I am determined to get that fish!
