  • Spring species specific fishing

As March comes to a close and April is here, the spring fishing season kicks in high gear for a bunch of different species- you should have completed all your pre-season gear preparation, kayak rigging, maintenance, etc.- in fresh/brackish waters, LM Bass become aggressive in pre-spawn mode as do the Northern Snakeheads...Blue Catfish are stealing baits meant for other species and are now a by-catch- white perch are every where as are the first wave of the big trophy stripers entering the Bay from offshore OBX and VA Beach ocean waters- croakers and trout are spotty by-catches as are the first arrivals of the flounder season- Togs are about done, although you can still catch them if you go after them- Black Drum are around Kiptopeake, Lattimer Shoals and the C-10 buoy areas- May is the month for Cobia, bluefish and grey trout around the mouth of the Bay...good luck to all my friends on the forum this fishing season- tight lines and good pullage-

You will enjoy the Ride with the new seat system, Stan- the track mounting system on the Wilderness kayaks is nice, too- Figure that as soon as we get four or five nice days in a row the fishing will dramatically improve- the snow falling on the surface of the water really drops temps fast and effectively shuts down the bite for a day or two- maybe this weekend warmer weather will start the fish up-

It wasn't in a kayak, but the pigs are out there. I caught this one yesterday on a suspending jerkbait. The water was still pretty cold so I was fishing very slow, but as you can see it paid off. I caught 3 yesterday and 5 today.

StrummerFan-That's a beauty! Caught one yesterday. Also, on a suspending jerkbait...about 1/3 the size of that one, though.
