  • Typical weights based on overall length

The typical 35 inch blue catfish weighs 30 pounds, according to VA DNR biologists...while it is difficult to eye ball a fish and guess its weight, there are many "typical" weight fish lengths- a 48 inch redfish is a 40 (+) pound fish- a 60 inch Cobia is a 50 (+) fish, a ten foot hammerhead is a 300 (+) pound fish- (a 12'4" Great Hammerhead male with a 60 inch girth is a 430# fish and the current Virginia State Record- I caught it in 1984)... so what does a typical 40 inch striper weigh? That is a citation in Maryland...
