For the brave fisherman out there

Just a quick, non-kayak related report:

Shore fisherman are starting to catch some decent sized (mid 20s to 30+) rockfish down here at PLO. I've had the pleasure of having to convince a few guys to release their fish since the season hasn't come in yet.

I'm sure those of you looking for some catch and release pullage and those brave enough to test the cold waters could catch a handful. If I'm working (it always seems like I am), and you're lucky enough to find me, I'll point out some of the hot spots for you try.

Yeah Ron (ronaultmtd) Mike (chexone) and I planned to hit it today but the wind.....and the wind direction, which left no good sheltered area ...pushed us to St Jeromes. Things were slow there and wind kept us from venturing out of the creek ...hampering our chances. Glad to hear they are catching some.

The winds made for some rough stuff out there. It would have been miserable in a yak. Next time you guys come down, let me know in some way. I can either point you in the right direction, or, if I'm lucky, possibly join you for a bit.

Yeah, Mike and I hit the inlet at St. J's Creek- it was pretty rough even in Hobies- A couple of power boats tried it and turned around and came back in- the last one was a 27 foot cuddy cabin with a Honda four stroke 225- he made it about a mile before he turned around and got back in- It wasn't too bad going directly into the waves, but the tricky part was turning around on the white caps-
I anchored up and chummed - fished on the bottom with cut alewife- had one hit like a ray or skate- didn't feel like a striper and the bait looked like someone stomped on it- while waiting on the bait, I jigged a 4 inch gulp- I caught a small striper on the gulp- only fish of the day- Mike got one and so did Kevin-

Glad to hear that the area has some fish starting to move in, hopefully they'll be a little more plentiful with the warming weather. Kudos to you guys for going out yesterday and actually catching!

The cow stripers have to pass there to get up to the Susky Flats- We have big fish in the Bay, just can't get a break in the weather- either too cold or too windy-

You hit the nail on the head; every time I think the weather is improving, big winds bring in cold air for a few days.

Hey, baby fish are better than no fish at all. My kayak remains dry due to a crazy schedule this year. I'm hoping to get it in St. Mary's Lake for a little bass fishing on Saturday as long as the weather holds up.
