Rod and reel for jigging/eels for stripers?

Just wondering what rods people used for both jigging and eel applications. I am not sure if there is a rod that covers both styles of fishing. I have been trying to do some research, but can't seem to find any good information for kayakers. Seems to be all info about charter boat fisherman and i'm not sure if it makes any difference.

Any input would help. I have a cheap rod that I plan on trying to jig the bay bridge with but I realized that the rod felt really uncomfortable in my hand when trying to jig for flounders at CHSP last weekend. Any info would be of great help. Thanks.

a penn V combo would suffice, unless you want to spend tons of money. a light bass pro combo is nice too

It seems we must have so many purpose specific rod and reel combinations nowadays- umph- nope, I don't think so- I fish just about everything with the same outfits-troll big stretch 25s, jig, live bait fish, toss plastics...seems to work just fine for me- not terribly expensive, but not cheap, either. My newest combination is the Daiwa 300H loaded with 30# Cabelas RipChord II braid on a 7'10' W&McGill Capt. Blair Wiggins Flats Blue HD rod- does everything I ask of it- my other combos (that I routinely fish with) are a pair of Revo SX- one on a Powell MH 7' rod and the other on a Lamiglas MH 7' rod with the same line- jigging can be done by a hand line- we make this stuff up as we go-so we can justify buying new stuff we really don't need, but want-

I think you would have more fun if you broke those two activities out into two rods. One, a medium heavy 6'6"-7ft" for jigging and the other a medium or medium heavy boat rod like an ugly stick tiger lite that can handle more weight. Just my $.02, but any rod you would normally hear of people eeling with will be overkill for our bay stripers.

I was hoing to try eels at kiptopeke this winter. So I would need a rod that can handle that. I have the 7' H tiger lite jigging rod with the cork tape grip. Would that work for this purpose?

I just got the 7' mh tidewater casting. Will that work for jigging? Its the 15-20 pound class.

Sounds like you're set for jigging and yeah that tiger lite would be great for eeling and live-lining bunker if you ever go north.
