Susky Flats Memorial Day Weekend

Toyomo and I are planning on hitting the flats memorial day weekend, most likely Saturday and Sunday. Sparky and Echo maybe coming as well so I also wanted to let others know who may be interested

We plan on being at the ramp around 6am and probably off the water around noon, give or take a few casts

Keep in eye on the winds...they came out of nowhere on Windfinder.com for the weekend. Sunday flats fishing is my goal.

I just checked windfinder also. Wow does it look windy for Sat. Does this mean there is going to be alot of mud so the water clarity is going to be non existent?

Yeah, a good stiff wind can indeed rile-up the Flats bigtime. Unfortunately, the Susky River flow above Conowingo is running at roughly 50% below average... that's a lot less clear water coming down river to flush out the mud on the Flats. Beings that it's a big 3-day weekend, the dam may cut back on generation even more than during weekdays.

Yeah, on the Flats, a south wind coming up the full length of the Bay is the worst. If you launch from Tydings then wind from the east is pretty nasty too. If winds are from the north then you can get a little relief by keeping to the northern sector of the Flats just off from the VA Hospital and the bluffs of Perryville Community Park. Wind from the west is middle-of-the-road.

Yeah I've been monitoring it and its pretty disappointing! Earlier in the week it was all beautiful and now its crazy windy and colder!

Either case I'm going to be up in that area over the weekend... so does anyone have a good recommendation for an area that's more protected from the winds for us to target Stripers or other tasty fish (excluding catfish)?

You can always head up the Susquehanna and shoot for some perch, smallmouth, largemouth, and such. Also striper, but I'm not sure where to even start looking for those.

That's true... I am craving some good eating fish other than perch though. I dunno, I'm going to keep my eye on the wind... but most likely we'll still go to the area and check it out Saturday morning... if its not good, we'll have to find a back-up...
