Next time the Bay is a pancake, go straight out until the bottom drops to 25-30 ft, try live-lining those perch and see what you get. If you don't have a FF, that's just past the second set of navigation marks.
That's been my reciept for sucess - two 8lb rods with #6 smooth hooks and earthworms on a bottom rig +1/2 oz weight to fill a bucket of perch/spot, then 18lb spinner with #5 octopus circle hook on a 24 lb grab leader to liveline the smalls.Chesapeake Beach Bum.

When I live line around the 301 bridge I use a one ounce in line sinker to get the live bait down but not on bottom- I use a swivel to stop the sinker on my running line and tie on a 40# mono leader- I like 6/0 circle hooks or larger- I drop the bait down about 15 -20 feet or so- if you put the live bait on the bottom be prepared for a long fight with big blue catfish- too big to eat catfish-"Lady Luck" 2016 Red Hibiscus Hobie Outback, Lowrance Hook2-7TS
