  • Striper fishing conowingo dam june 2nd

Will be heading to the Conowingo Dam Sunday June 2. Dont know if im fishing the morning or afternoon, depends on weather and how many gates will be open. Who's ready to tear up some fish?!

Based on Conowingo generation releases over the past week or more, looks like the dam starts generating around noon and continues for several hours into the afternoon. I'm hearing fishermen are catching big numbers of big flatheads immediately below the dam. So, be loaded for bear... big bears! When I stopped in there about a month ago it looked like most of the flatheads were being snagged using big jigs and long twistertails with inline weights added for distance. Don't know if that is routine for flatheads there or not. Most of the flatheads looked to be in the 10#-15# range or bigger.

Also, I found this amazing report in the Maryland DNR Fisheries "Angler's Log". Look it over. The fishing report I'm referring to is titled "Flathead Removal and is dated May 23, 2013. I'm not sure if I added this link right, you might have to scroll back a couple of pages to find it.

They are catching those flatheads from shore as close to the dam as you can get. You can get anywhere near that close by water.

Fished there a little last weekend. Good numbers of flatheads were caught but only a few small stripers from what I saw.

The flatheads were caught right at the base of the dam form shore. Watched a guy pull out 2 30 pounders. Headed down the trail and caught a buch of channel cats! mostly aroun 10-15 pounds. the stripers are there just have to wait till season!
