I got mine! Not all from kayak but a fish every month for sure! I'm glad I snuck that tog trip in bc I have been out of the country since then and unable to fish. I'm going to have to plan a strategy for January travel. Hopefully I can keep the streak going!

I got fish every month only because I fished a lot, met good anglers, and found the local fresh waters. This year I have 4 new species to my fishing career. The new species were yellow perch, crappie, American Shad, and snakehead.

Pickerel can be a new species next year.

My goal last year was to catch a fish every month for 2011. I succeeded in my goal. I caught a fish Jan 2011 - Dec 2011. I'll try to do it again next year.

It looks you are very interested in catching snakehead. Here are some video fishing logs regarding snakehead in MD and VA. Here is another example of - Michael found fish first and gave me the possible lures. Then I caught fish using one of his lure:

I caught fish every month of the year except January, maybe I'll get a January fish in 2012...

Nothing really all that big this year, but awesome for variety with nearly 35 different species of which several were new to me.

Your 35 species is very impressive. I did nearly as well -- my overall summary (including fishing from my kayak, from my power boat, from other people's boats, with a guide, or by pier or wade fishing) is:

- 32 species
- 10 were new species to me
- caught my largest rockfish to date in each of the following ways: a) jigging the bay bridge pilings, b) jigging in open water, c) from my kayak, and d) livelining.

My kayak only totals are not so large - just 9 species caught. They include: pickerel, white perch, yellow perch, largemouth bass, flounder, bluefish, rockfish, blue crab (on hook and line), and speckled trout. Four of these species were first time kayak fishing catches.


I plan to get my 2012 license before the end of the year so I am ready to go Jan 1. My goal for next year is to catch at least one fish in each month.

Actually, my nearly 35 different species turns out to be 32 as well...

Most of them were caught on the kayak...
My new species were:
Gizzard shad
Walleye
Tidal chain pickerel
Clearnose skate
American shad
Naked Goby
Toad fish
Pufferfish
Bullfrog

Yes, I caught a bullfrog with a nightcrawler...

Also, caught my first keeper Flounder, first maryland speck, first kayak seabass and largest kayak Striper at 26".

This was probably one of my worst years of kayak fishing since I've started. I didn't have as much time to fish as I wanted, and the striper action at my usual spots was way off from previous years. It probably feels worse than it really was because last few years have been exceptionally good. I did catch my first Maryland speck this year (no keepers, though), and I caught specks in 3 different states now with the ones I caught while in Florida. That was cool.
