  • Eastern Shore Ponds

Just curious…Has anyone visited ponds on the Eastern Shore recently like Unicorn or Wye Mills?

If so are they clear of excessive vegetation/algae and fishable?

    Thank you,

Wye mills ive heard is a ghost town. 3 or 4 people i know in the last 2 weeks have fished in and manage 1 or NO fish at all.

Unicorn has been doing okay, the DE ponds are on FIRE from what I hear.

Let me know to. I love these ponds. I really want to get over to Millsboro. Its a good drive over there but looks like an amazing fishery. I was driving past one day and seen lillys. Rocks. Lay downs. Grass. and its about twice the size of centennial.

Just noticed every response in this thread is by someone that lives in the same area. Perhaps we should take it upon ourselves to setup a trip?

I am game for whenever. I work M-F 6-2 Saturdays are my real only day to make a trip to DE as I have baseball games on Sun.

I live in Elkridge right now in an Apartment but i leave my Kayak in Pasadena with my parents.

I'd like to go to Millsboro too, if possible. I'm not exactly *in* Columbia, I am closer to Elkridge, Hanover and Severn.

I am certainly game for a pond group outing.

My only pond experience in DE is Trap in Laurel. I haven't been there this year but I have in previous years. It has lots of vegetation in the shallow end that offers good cover for bass. The bald cypress trees growing from the water also provide excellent cover as does the downed wood along the shoreline. Bass, crappie, pickerel and very large bluegills are prevalent. Fly rod poppers worked along the shoreline or near structure early in the morning and at dusk and soft plastics with traditional tackle when the sun is high are good tactics.

Trap Pond is in a DE state park with camping facilities which would make it suitable for an overnight trip for those interested. There are a string of rustic cabins and yurts for rent with shoreline access for those who lack tents or campers.

Don't waste your time at Johnson's Pond. Few nice pickeral taking topwater, but the bass action is limited this year.
