  • skunk is out

OK, I bought the manta 11 about 2 weeks ago. Went on a little paddle the first night. Took it out on Sunday at the Susky. Floated, paddled and cast around, but never got bit. (thought about trying to snag a carp, since they were all over the place, but didn't)

It was enjoyable, but I certainly would have liked to catch something.

Well, today, took it to Days Cove. Another unfamiliar body of water, as far as fishing. I have gone duck hunting there before.
Paddled out past the RR bridge and fan casted around various spots. Near the channel. around the flats, fishing blind. (no electronics yet), I ended up drifting into a little cove. A bald eagle flew off as I got close. That always seems to be a good omen.
Got a solid hit on my shad rap. But a miss. THEN, hooked up with something big. Drag being pulled. Losing line. down to the backing.......... I tried to make a quick adjustment to the drag........fish off. But it was one of the biggest fish I have ever hooked in to.
Worked the area for quite a while longer, but no luck.

Paddled back in, stopping to try here and there.
Finally went back to the creek that leads to the launch. NOW, I really just want to get a fish in the boat. Anything. I'd settle for a sunny at this point!
So, I started casting my litte twister tail around. Got a couple of hits here and there. And then......finally.......hooked up, short fight, FISH IN THE BOAT !! A nice 15" tidal LMB. COOL.

I just wanted to get the first one on artificials and I did.
Not the most exciting report, I guess, but I'm stoked. It was just a great morning and the yak is de-skunked!

Glad the skunk is "off" instead of "out". You scared me for a minute. I've got a lot of fishing planed in the next few days and if the skunk was "out" I would be a little nervous. I hate when I run in to his @ss.

But seriously though, anytime you land your first fish in a new yak, it is a great story. I am sure it won't be the last.

Congrats! Good chance you missed a big Striper, I've heard of them being caught up in there at times, but could have also been a ray...
