  • recommendations for rod and reel for Bay fishing for stripers

I would like to know what you all would recommend for a good rod and reel for fishing for stripers, flounder, blues, etc. on the Bay. Size rod, action, reel type, reel capacity, brands, etc.

I have not yet gone kayaking on the Bay, but would like to see if I have anything in my current rod and reel "collection", which probably isn't as extensive as some of you may have. My plans are to fish the Bay sometime soon.

I am interested in mid-range to upper-range price - meaning: nothing cheap. I want something that is going to last and do the job with me "at the controls".

    Thanks in advance.

You probably already have a rod you can start with your normal med bass rod will catch all but the biggest stripers and blues it just takes a little more finness to put em in the boat I have been using a cheap med uglystick with Pluger reel and have landed stripers up to 24 inches with it I also have a med/heavy uglystick saltwater model with a penn battle 3000 reel both with 10 or 12 lbs mono Im going to upgrade both rods soon but I still caught fish with them and they are both cheap. So I would start with what you have if nothing else. If your upgrading Im personally hooked on overboard rods right now 1 because they float and 2 because I have big hand and personally like the bigger grips and Im still going with a penn reel all of mine have been bullet proof and I abuse them. Im sure everybody has there favs Im on a tight budget so its not top of the line stuff.

If I had to pick one it I'd say a 6'6"-7' MH fast action graphite rod in either spinning or baitcaster. Spinning would be more versatile.
      Used to fish more.
