  • Matapeake launch site

I came to MD without my cart and need to be able to drive near the launch site. Is there a ramp at Matapeake or can you drive to the beach to launch without a long carry?

They have a boat launch ramp on the one end, however to park in that area by the ramp requires you to pay a fee at the pay machine. A Way possibly around this is to park up by the walking path lot... It's actually an overflow. Never have payed for that lot when biking. Also lot up top for beach doesn't require a fee to park. I was told the lot by the path only vehicles that get ticketed are those that used the ramp and didn't pay the fee. You can also park for free over by the kent narrows ramp. However heavy boat traffic the next two days due to the boat races. You could paddle to the wall and fish and watch the race also. They are done for today

Last time I was up there the fee was $10. It covers you for 24hrs access to Matapeake and Romancoke piers/launches. They seem to be pretty strict for parking enforcement in the lots closest to the piers, but those lots are closest to the boat launches too, if I remember correctly.

Thanks. That looks as close to the bridge as Terrapin Park with a lot less travel to get to the water.

That paddle from Matapeake to the bridge is longer, but you prob will make up that time in the launch bc you don't have to go far on foot. Benefit also is that you arnt subject to being out by sunset or when the gate is opened like terrapin. If the water is rough Terrapin prob would be a better spot to launch from bc the beginning of the bridge that is land will provide safety and calm down those waves to allow you to paddle without getting pounded on rough days or even fighting a strong tide. If you haven't been out pay attention to that wind. A slight breeze will start to pick up the waves fast. Pay attention to the whitecaps, also on rough days one span will usually a bit calmer. The pilings will absorb some of that energy bf it gets to the other span. One maybe more fishable than the other.

cheaper to launch from the boat ramps at sandy point state park or they have a beach launch too, much better than terrapin park and impossible with out a cart
