Fine standing up... but as soon as I sit in my chair... it's like waves are rolling by...
I usually spend 6 hours in the water.. today was seven... nice day despite the rain.

        Yeah... I'm feeling it now.

It's like when I drive for 10 hours straight... when I stop, I feel like I'm still moving.

My unscientific opinion is that our balance/orientation system adjusts when we're on the water, so that we don't feel like we're moving. When we get back to land, it takes a little time to readjust to being still. A good beer or two cancels out the effects.

I have notice two things about the wave feeling.
It hits me in the shower the most and the more dehydrated I am the worse it is.
And yes I know I should drink more water.

I get that feeling quite often. In recent months, I've averaged about 10 hrs on the water, in the rockin' bay, not in relatively calm rivers and lakes. The longest I've been on the water was 12 hrs.

After yak outing, I feel fine driving home. When I step out of the car at a rest stop, I get that "rocking-waving" feeling. I get back in the car and everything's OK. Sometimes this rocking feeling lasts hours, sometimes days.

Anyway, it's called Mal de debarquement syndrome (MdDS, or disembarkment syndrome).

From the internet: "....rare condition usually occurring after a cruise, aircraft flight, or other sustained motion event. It has only recently received attention and very little scientific research has been conducted. The phrase "mal de débarquement" is French for "disembarkation sickness".

Symptoms most frequently reported include a persistent sensation of motion usually described as rocking, swaying, or bobbing; difficulty maintaining balance; extreme fatigue; and difficulty concentrating ("brain fog"). Other common symptoms include dizziness, visual disturbances (such as seeing motion, inability to focus etc.), headaches and/or migraine headaches, confusion, and anxiety. Many patients also describe ear symptoms such as hyperacusis, tinnitus, "fullness", pain, or even decreased hearing. Cognitive impairment ("brain fog") includes an inability to recall words, short term memory loss, and an inability to multi-task."

As you can see, symptoms can be severe. I think maybe most yakers experience some limited form of MdDS. I notice the symptoms are a bit more severe after I'm 9-10 hrs on the water for each of two to four consecutive days of yak fishing. When I'm on the water though, there's no MdDS.

On top of this condition, we have to worry about yak ass (sore butts and sciatica). Sheeeesh, the things we have to tolerate to enjoy this hobby....lol.... My wife says I should switch to line-dancing.....yuk.....

I get it. Doesn't bother me per se. I agree with Rockchaser, it's worst in the shower, especially when I close my eyes. Felt it first years ago after getting off of a tuna boat in OC. I was the only one other than the captain and one of his guys who didn't rolf on that trip. Really felt fine until I was on land, in the shower, then tipped forward forehead on the shower stall, wondering who was tilting the room.

I don't think ive ever experienced any of the more unpleasant symptoms listed by tufnik, but after being on the water jigging all day yesterday I did point out to Abu Masgouf on the drive home that I was still feeling the jigging sensation and the tapping of the fish. Hard to describe exactly.

Hahaha! I spent 10 hours on the water on Thursday and then had a hockey game to go to. I told the guys I was feeling like I was still on the boat...they said, "great, now you get to put on skates and see how that works!" I tripped coming out of the bench one time and of course they didn't let me forget about being off balance. :-)
