New this Year: BAA sanctioned and separate category for Hook-and-line fishing
Whackfactor Outdoors is excited to report that we will be hosting the 3rd Annual Potomac Snakehead Tournament. It is open to anyone with a valid Maryland or Virginia Fishing license. Participants can win cash and prizes for the heaviest fish and overall total weight. Participants can fish, hook and line or bow fishing, beginning June 29th, 2013, at 6 p.m. until June 30, 2013, at 12:30 p.m., anywhere on the tidal Potomac in Maryland or Virginia. Cost to enter is $60 online registration by June 28th, 2013, or $70 day of the tournament. The 1st place team with the heaviest total of Snakeheads harvested by bowfishing will receive a minimum of $1,500 and the 1st place team with the heaviest total of Snakeheads caught by hook-and-line methods (including fly-fishing) will receive a minimum of $1000. A percentage of the tournament profits will be donated to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to help fight invasive species in the Potomac River watershed. The Tournament is presented by Whackfactor Outdoors, LLC, with sponsorship from Profish, The Rockfish, Flying Dog Brewery, Swann Construction Inc, Muzzy, AMS bowfishing, and Bowfishing Association of America.
Official tournament events will take place at Smallwood State Park, 2750 Sweden Point Road, Marbury, MD 20658. All participants are strongly encouraged attend the pre-tournament conference at 5 p.m. June 29th, 2013. Guest speakers will include Joseph W. Love, Ph.D. Tidal Bass Manager, Maryland Department of Natural Resources; and Joshua J. Newhard, Fisheries Biologist, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Chad Wells, Executive Chef, Alewife, Baltimore, MD, will prepare and present a snakehead tasting from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. on June 30th, 2013. Also included in the tasting, blue catfish, provided by ProFish and prepared by the Whackfactor Outdoors Pro-Staff, and a Flying Dog Beer sampling (ages 21+ participants).
