  • Got my January Fish Too!

I did not go on a kayak, but I joined my brother in law and a friend on a boat with captain Mike on the Susq in 35 degree morning temps. We caught over 250 yellow perch, but could only keep 10 fish each. It was fun to be back out on the water. We caught fish in 60 feet to 20 feet of water with the best catches occuring in 21 feet of water using artificial bait on light action lines. These were the largest yellow perch that I have ever caught. Many of them were around 12 to 13 inches. We were throwing back anything 11 inches and under.

Those are some nice looking fish. Were there many boats on the water? Did you seen any kayaks?

I did not see any boats until 10am. I did see three other yakers that were catching perch. Steve Rehner was one of the yakers that I knew that was out there on the water. I spoke to him for alittle while. Catching those yellow perch were run. I got a gallon bag of perch roe to go along with the fillets.

Nice work! Those are some really hefty perch. It's hard to imagine throwing back 11 inchers. Sounds like a blast.
