I have launched from there last year. I didn't have much luck. I did enjoy the rocks out from the shore--but didn't get any hits until I got closer to the power plant. Interested in hearing your after trip report. Staff at the park are really nice people! Best of luck!

About 10 years ago or more I spent a couple hours driving/walking through the entire park. At the time the park was in a state or disrepair and neglect. A couple of small pavilions were falling down, many picnic tables and benches were unusable, vines had taken over other structures. I haven’t been back since. Great location though and I saw lots of potential.

Then something changed, but I don’t know what changed. Was the park originally owned by B-more City???... or some other agency???... or what??? Anyway, AA County got involved and I’ve heard the park is much improved and looking good.

Question: How close can you get a car to the canoe/kayak put in?

Another question: Is that really big white rock you can see way out in the river a natural rock? If so then it certainly looks way out of place. Or maybe is it a giant hunk of concrete left over from a long gone structure of sorts.

The kayak put in is right next to the parking lot. Just unload and drag across the little sand beach about 20' into the water.

The big white rock is a rock. I've fished there before in a kayak and caught alot of WP and a couple of stripers. On the way to the rock from Smallwood there is area off the point, there is a spot where alot of the WP hang out. I haven't been out there in a while. Good luck out there and let me know how you do.

Baltimore city still owns the park but in 2006 Anne Arundel County leased it for 45 years with a 30 year renewal option. Many improvements at the facility have occurred since the county took over its operation.

This site gives more information about the park: http://www.aacounty.org/RecParks/lau...m#.UefizG18qZF

You do not need to pay for each entry into Fort Smallwood Park if you have an Anne Arundel County Parks Pass ($40 annual fee).

It’s another nice resource for car-top boaters here in Anne Arundel County.

I hope On the Fly is having a good outing from there as I type this. If the fish are present he will catch them.

Also, if retired military, you get into this and other parks w/o a charge. Rocks are natural and looked as if they have been there for sometime. Could even have been one large section. I did mark larger fish around the area-just no notes.

Anyone ever try the shoal off the point? Its pretty large and goes out almost to the main channel. I keep my boat in old Road Bay which is right across from the fort smallwood point (Rock point) and usually stop on the shoal when heading out and its usually my last stop when coming back in. I usually always find pullage there and late in the summer theres always working birds in the area. Plenty of perch and croaker right now and usually lots of dink rock. Found some working birds there 2 weeks ago (1st ive seen this year) with alot of dinks but then hit a pod of fish in the mid 20's and got a quick limit. 1st keepers ive caught there.

There is also alot of submerged poles close to shore that looks like it could hold fish but have never taken my boat up that close.
Glad to here theres a launch there. Have to give it a try in my outback. Been wanting to go up into rock creek with the kayak as well. Any launches up in the creek area anywhere?

Is a tidal license enough to fish here?

Yeah, This is Tidal. I'm not sure there is even freshwater back in those tribs (Rock Creek, White's Cove, Tar Cove, etc).

This place went to crap years ago when the City was running it. Local kids would go have huge parties and it took City cops well over an hour to get there and put an end to it. I grew up just down the road but haven't been since I was young. I fished the white rocks as a kid and remember catching perch and rockfish with ease all the time. Certainly a great fishing spot, Good luck!
