  • Kayaks beware in potomac

8 foot bull shark was caught in a net on Tuesday

It's the 4th time a bull shark has been caught in the Potomac.
Shark week named the bull shark the #1 most aggressive shark to humans last night

Just in time for shark week... probably a conspiracy that Art Bell should investigate.

I do like the last quote in the Washington Post article...
"We're gonna steak him up and try him. Some people say shark is good to eat. We'll see."

I'll just have to be quick when I side-saddle my kayak chumming my toes over the side,
as I'm bottom fishing or eating lunch...

When the West Bay Jaws comes a wandering.

All in all... it's a pretty cool catch !

Who's going to be the first to catch one of these from a yak?

Did it last year (6ft black tip), great pull, super endurance. I was not close to land, so I cut the leader after 20 min. and having it swim under the yak about eight times. Nice adrenalin buzz, highly recommend it.

May want to think twice about dangling a stringer of fish off the yak . . .

There have been a couple seen in the river above the 301 bridge in years past. A few years ago during a B.A.S.S. event one was seen in the area of Potomac Creek (S/o Aquia Cr. on the VA side) but I haven't heard of any spotted north of there. Last year would have been the year, with the salt line so far north but I didn't hear any reports of any sightings in the river.

A friend of mine was kayaking with his nephew at st indigoes right by the green bouy last week. His nephew was pulling in a croaker when he felt a hard tug, thinking he had a real big fish. Then felt a release of pullage and reeled in nothing but the head of the croaker. Upon examination they thought that it was a shark that eat that croaker the bite mark was well outside the width of the croaker.

It looks like you are right on the 2010 date. If I remember right, they caught 2 that year.

Late last summer I had something large hit a 6" Rapala in the upper Severn. It was on a 5' 20lb class boat rod I was testing out. Doubled the rod over. 30 seconds into the fight it turned, ran, and the 30+lb fluoro leader snapped or was bitten through 18" above the lure. No head shake whatsoever. Maybe it was a bull!!! :0. We're gonna need a bigger boat!
