Hey guys Im trying to decide if I should go tomorrow. Weather doesn't look good but the last time I went to centennial the storm was done in half an hour. There calling for rain and storms storms around 40 to 50 percent. My buds and i are all off and wanna go. I was gonna look at the radar at four am and make the call by that. Any thoughts?

I agree with you. Check the weather early in the morning and decide

We got out early (sunrise) didn't have bad weather at all but had low tide. We fished till. 11 Or so and called it quits. My bud got 4 bass and I didn't get a single bite the whole time. Threw ribbit frogs flipped a creature bait in the holes of the grass and even threw a Kai tek swim bait w.o a touch. He got his mainly on really small buzz baits. We hit centennial on the way home and iI got 2 Small bass. I'll have to go back with someone that really knows the place and the spots cuz that sucked lol

Tidal influence does affect the bite. Fish are more willing to play when the tide is moving then slack off when the tide does. They can still be caught but the action does tend to slow when the water stops flowing with the tide. I'll be down there, launching at Slavins (Mattingly Ave) Friday afternoon, most of the day Saturday and Sunday morning until about 2:00 PM. Friday and Sunday we will likely be in the back of Mattawoman, Saturday is still undecided as we may fish towards Smallwood (downstream).

Mattawoman can be a boom or bust spot- Had both experiences in the same week- weekends get a lot of pressure- everyone in the area knows Mattawoman Creek- and at times it seems they all fish it the same day- I have had my best luck on moving water and way back in the thick stuff where boats cannot get- or at least you think they can't- last time I was there I saw a 16 foot flat bottom aluminum jon boat being poled through the Lilly pads a half mile back in there- the two guys in the boat had a dozen snakeheads and that was all they were fishing for- they had the outboard tilted up out of the water- there are a lot of places in Southern Maryland that offer similar fishing- if you have never been there I would offer Mallows Bay as a special kind of fishing- don't bring a pedal yak due to obstructions and old wrecks, but it can be a lot of fun with top water and weedless swim baits

Did tide seem abnormally low? I took bas boat down o Alexandria on Sunday night. I got their about 30 minutes before dead low tide and it was LOW! I can't recall seeing it so low. The grass was thick around Belle Haven launch. Anyway, I had similar poor results. I caught a bluegill. That's it. I only fished a couple of hours but haven't had such a poor showing there for awhile. Couldn't buy a bite. Fishing moving water is much better. I was leaving at dark just when water was starting to move. Too bad.

The fish didn't "feel" like biting...they had an off day-

Agreed.runnin. I had to make a sacrifice though... either stay later and be stuck in d.c. traffic forever or leave then and fish centennial on the way back. We paddled all the way down and it was a blast coming back paddling directly into the wind with the tide starting to move lol .
