I nominate SH to be the new tournament fish. Catch/Release the big one, bring home the small one. There not much to be change anyway, we use the same rods/reel & lures to fish for SH and bass.

If you can beat it, join it. If you can't destroy it, use it.

The article says , "So far, the virus has been detected in bass, sunfish and other species, the USGS said, but only largemouth bass have developed a disease as a result."

So wouldn't it stand to reason that the fact the snakeheads now have it too is just a result of them now being found in bodies of water where the virus is already present? It sounds bad, but I don't think it means that snakeheads are now going to be the reason for a LM fish kill if one does occur.

It's a problem regardless of the source of the virus if snakeheads are immune to it. That's one of the major concerns of invasive species -- their ability to introduce or transmit diseases they are unaffected by to the indigenous population.

It may give them a leg (fin) up in their competition with bass and help them to increase their range as the scientist in the article predicted.

haha, Not that I don't and won't kill every one I catch, but sure, lets all go blame the snakehead because no one likes it anyhow. Read this quote: "According to Bassmaster, the virus also was blamed for a fish kill in Lake George on the border of Indiana and Michigan. Illinois biologists detected it in fish from four lakes and in hatchery stock."

Key in on that last words...IN HATCHERY STOCK.....

Did anyone happen to notice the name they've given this virus? Seems to me it's called Largemouth Bass virus. Back to which came first, chicken or egg.
