  • New yak owner and ready to go out

Just got my Perception Pescador in yesterday and im waiting on the scupper plugs and rod holders. Once they come in, anyone want to go out and launch from either Jonas or Sandy point late next week. Im looking at either the 29 or 30 of this month. This will be my second time out in a kayak so im still pretty much a newbie. More the merrier.

Where you at? I'm in Glen Burnie. Have the same boat, two of them actually, one for me and one for the wife. Can't do the 29th or 30th but am going out this weekend. You can fish without the holder or scuppers and if you would like to get together let me know. We can have a Pescador fleet. If not maybe some other time, I do get off early here and there.

Im in Montgomery County. Depending what day I may be down for this weekend. I thought about getting my wife a pescador also but since she hardly comes out she will use the tandem we have laying around.
Where are you going this weekend?

Going out Saturday somewhere. Considering Broomes Island and Jonas Greene at this point. Had good luck at Broomes Island early in the spring and want to check it out a little more. It's fairly low on the Patuxent, somewhere around an hour and half drive for you I guess and about the same for me. Same time Jonas is close and easy. Keep me up to date if you are interested in hooking up. Might be nice for you to see how we have rigged our yaks. Definitely going somewhere Saturday and would enjoy the company.

Roger. If you end up going to Jonas let me know. I will try to make it. Usually the earlier the better for me. Keep me posted.

If you purchased those scupper plugs that look like big corks... they may not stay in the holes very well.
Mine didn't or they were the wrong size and I took them back. The other types I am not familiar.
I am using foam type practice golf balls. I had to shave them down to fit... I drilled holes in them
and ran a cord. Very inexpensive for a six pack and they work great and easy to find.

Thaimonkee... go to my profile page and the albums you can see my setup... although it has changed from the
May pictures... rod holders in the "yellow" bucket and a three rod holder in the forward mount.

I don't know if you are totally new to sit on tops... I was and still am... they can be quite tippy at the unexpected
moment... as you might have read in previous posts. Don't be afraid to sit side saddle to reach things behind the seat.
Side saddle is a very stable position on the kayak , you less top heavy. There was a very nice post by Ronaultmtd on tips for a beginner... I couldn't find it this morning.. but maybe do a search on newbie and you will find useful information.

You'll get the hang of having multiple rods... and fumbling around for gear... a small lure bag between your legs is helpful.
And if it ain't tied down.. you are going to eventually lose it over the side. Needle nose pliers on an elastic leash with a snap link to an eyelite or your belt loop will keep from having a frustrating day. You already know you can get cheap snaplinks at HomeDepot... but at most fabric stores you can get very cheap elastic cord for small items.

And not to add to the list... having a cart is a big plus.. many of us make our own.
Expect power boats not to see you.
Carry a whistle (I think it's required by law) or some type of sound safety device.

I forgot to mention I bought the fishing version of the Pescador. Nit sure what the difference is other than the price, rod
Holders and anchor. Anyways things are on hold for now since i have to replace both rear leaf springs on my truck. It may take a few days but will update as the week goes on.
