Hey all. I've been trolling for months now and decided to show my face/speak up. I have very limited experience with kayaks and fishing in general. I purchased a 10' potomac pathfinder at Dick's this spring. Price was cheap but I've also realized so is the yak. Anywho, I have been fishing mid pax and would love to tag along on a trip down that way if the opportunity should present itself. I also may come up for the cbka tournament next weekend. Does anybody have any recomendations for a launch point on the ebay/prospect side? By looking at google earth and the naut charts, this area seems to be more along my comfort lines than the open bay side. I've thoroughly enjoyed all the reports and the glut of info available on this forum. I badly want to upgrade to the moken 12.5 but the funds are quite a bit off for that. In the meantime I must make do with the little mini tank that I paddle lol. Thanks in advance for any and all advice doled out and I hope to fish with some of y'all soon.

Alan - Yep, 10' is cutting it close for big water... but I think you are aware of your limits. Gotta check the weather on the web BEFORE you launch. Kent Narrows is a good place to launch. Lots of good water a safe distance away. Just gotta deal with the strong currents right at the Narrows bridges. This area has a 10 knot speed limit so hopefully you won't get buzzed by a big boat until you get a ways away from the bridges where you can get away from the channel that the big boats use. Most likely, heading south from the Narrows is your best bet. I'm sure there are lots of other nearby areas to launch. I just don't get down there all that often to know were the best ones are. Pleasure boat traffic will start cutting back as folk start storing their boats for the winter.

Welcome aboard The tournament is a for a good cause and its blast. If the wind is up there is at least 8 different launches in Eastern Bay. So you should have no problem getting some rod time. Plus you will get to see a lot of different boats and setups.

Thanks for the welcome. imagine, that looks like a great rig. funds are pretty tight for me right now. closing on a house in 15 days. So for now all i can do is wish, dream, and research the hell outta the kayaks that would fit my needs. I registered for the tournament this afternoon, so i hope seeing a bunch of rigged up yaks will help me narrow in on a couple to focus on.

I have a hybrid sit on top/sit in jackson kilroy, I am staying inside a creek with ON THE FLY and a few other guys he is going out with. Im pretty experienced in this thing. Ive stood up in some wake in the severn with no problem at all. But im also smart enough to know the currents and the difference at the bridge is unlike no other and its not worth the risk of loosing my gear.

Anyhow, you are more then welcome to keep it close with us, Hang out in the back of Kent Island coves and marinas and fish. Im not going to this trying to win, just meet the guys and get out and have a good time on the water.

Harry has a jackson cuda 14 as well.

Im sure you will see Lots of varietys of kayaks. I sold my pro angler for the boat im fishing in this weekend, and only time i regret it is bay fishing, which i do maybe less then 10 times a year. But my kayak now is just as stable, and keeps up at 5-6 mph paddling effortlessly with those who can pedal fast

                  somdsparky,

                  +1 to BassMoore's message.

                  This link may help you:

Mark, thanks for the link :-) there are a couple launches on that i wasn't aware of that look to put me closer to the areas i was interested in fishing.

Bassmoore, whereabouts were you looking to launch/fish? I am very much interested in sticking to the backside of the island
