  • 2013 JCKF/TKFS Cape May Jamboree to benifit NJ HOW

    Jersey Cape Kayak Fishing & The Kayak Fishing Store
    Present the 4th Annual Cape May Kayak Fishing Jamboree for NJ Chapter of Heroes on the Water

    The 4th Annual Cape May Kayak Fishing Jamboree is slated for Friday, 10/25/13 through Sunday, 10/27/13. In the strictest of terms, this event is not a tournament. It’s a gathering of friends for the camaraderie found within this sport. We leave the formalities out. For this reason, we use a Jamboree (whatever/whenever/however) format. Entry fee has been set at $50.00 per person and 100% of the profits will be donated to the NJ Chapter of Heroes on the Water.

    Captain's Meeting;
    A NON-mandatory meet and greet bon-fire meeting will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 6pm, at the Lake Laurie Campground (Event Headquarters) located in Erma, NJ. (Address and info attached here)

    For bragging rights, and for those with a competitive spirit, we will be having some prizes and a few Calcutta’s. Target species will be Striped Bass, Weakfish, Bluefish, Fluke and Tautog. Individual species, Slam and Grand Slam categories will be created if voted on at the Capt Meeting.

    Almost everyone stays at the Lake Laurie Campground. (We had the entire campground to ourselves for the last 3 years) Plenty of clean bathrooms, showers and laundry are on site. The staff there is awesome and is now under new ownership. If you weren’t there, talk to someone that was. You’ll be told not to miss it.

    We are planning; kayak fishing clinics, sponsor booths, on the water kayak demos, and fresh water fishing within the tournament headquarters all through the weekend long event. Each participant will receive an event T-shirt and dinner at the banquet to be held on Saturday at 5pm.

    If you have any questions about the event or would like to become a sponsor or exhibitor, please feel free to email or call us at;

        Fishing license? How long is the drive from Baltimore? Or is there a ferry from Lewes, DE?

          I've taken both routes.

          It's about 150 mile from Baltimore to Cape May if you go up I-95 and cross the Delaware Memorial Bridge then head SE to Cape May.

          Lewes, DE is about 110 miles from Baltimore. The ferry goes right to Cape May. Nice ride but it's expensive -- probably more than the cost of gas and tolls for the land route depending on what you drive. It is also wise to call ahead and reserve a spot on the ferry, especially on weekends.

          I don't know about NJ fishing license requirements.

            I believe the only license required is the NJ saltwater registry, which is free.

              Ok, that sounds even better. Now I'm planning for it. It'll be my first, so any idea on what the bites will be like with the cooling water in that area?

                good luck all in the tourney!

                does anyone know where to get additional information (forums, websites, etc) regarding fishing the marsh and sod banks of south jersey? i'm roughly planning to go fluke fish with a friend just south of atlantic city next spring. i think the location will be 'little egg'. any help is appreciated.

                  Chris Parson at the Kayak Fishing Store in North Wildwood can help a lot. After fishing in Cape May last August, I made the following map to show several launch points where I launched. I had no prior experience and did not have a fishfinder on that trip.

                    thanks. this has actually been on my mind for a few weeks and the fact that i'm pretty much clueless re the TX fishing conditions brought it back to the front. i expect there's some migratory stripers in that area at TX time. dunno. jim sammons did a near-shore striper segment but i don't remember exactly where/when.

                    but i expect to be considerably further north than cape may. in fact, north of atlantic city i think. but there is a LOT of really nice habitat all along the NJ coast. i'm kind of looking to find/read a local inshore forum for awhile and sort of get a better feel for it all.

                    may be worth calling or emailing Chris Parson as you suggest.

                        Yeah, Mike, but you can keep only 1/day.

                        If you go to the jck site, you'll see a post with a map showing a bunch of launch sites, including where the togs are.

                              Mullet, JKay, others. I met Paul, Chris and others there. Thanks for your efforts. You guys did good work for the Jamboree and HOW. Many of my MKF friends decided not to go, so I went alone and met many new friends. It was my first time there, and I enjoyed it. The camp area was nice. The tog bite was hot, and I caught over 30 togs! I posted results here. It was fun, and I plan to go again next year.
