Water Access Update

Anne Arundel County, Maryland: Beverly Triton Beach Park, Homeport Farm Park, South River Farms Park

After 37 years, the general public has full access to Beverly Triton Beach Park. The gate is open. The permit to drive into the park is eliminated. You can drive in, drop off your boat at a loading zone near the beach and park either inside or outside the park. The vacant lot across from the park entrance will be used for overflow parking. Plus there's a portapotty in the park. We got everything we asked for except waterfront signage and that's in the works. Go enjoy a mile of sandy beach right on the Chesapeake Bay.

Homeport Farms Park is usable and being used. Formal ribbon cutting is delayed until some final tweaks are done. Go ahead and keep using it. We got everything we asked for except a portapotty and signage and signage is in the works. Go enjoy the only usable public put-in on the South River.

We will have significant access to South River Farms Park by Spring 2014.

Beverly beach is a great launch for bay fishing. You enter right into the bay, with access to the South and West rivers.

You can land at South River Farms Park now, you just can't enter that park in a car and launch your kayak. It's probably not on your map. South River Farms Park is right across the South River from Quiet Waters Park.

South River Farms Park has a small "T" dock on a long sandy beach on Limehouse Cove near the Loch Haven Community. There are more sandy beaches along the shore of the South River, then you're around the point and into Selby Bay. The Selby Bay park shore is mostly marsh.

It's 8 miles round trip from Homeport Farm Park to Limehouse Cove in South River Farms Park. It's close to a toss-up whether South River Farms Park is closer to Homeport Farm Park or Beverly-Triton Beach Park. If you launch from Beverly-Triton you can stop at Mayo Beach Park on the way to South River Farms Park.

Just a heads up on Beverly/Triton Beach Park when you head down Rt 214 bear left at "The Corner Store" (the "Y" in the road) then stay straight for about a mile until you see the Chain Link fence, that is the entrance to the park. If you go to the right of the Corner Store all of that area is Private and "Does Not" have an entrance to the park from that side.
Also, please take bug spray with you...the woods and the fields are full of deer ticks!
