  • New Guy, Hello All

Hello all, I'm new to the forum and going all in on kayak fishing. I just sold my 27' twin engine express fishing boat and ordered a new Pro Angler 14. I have been kayak fishing with friends, on their various boats, for years but decided it's time to head back to basics and become a better angler. I was getting tired of $1,000 re-fuels, engine and boat maintenance, and dealing with taking other folks fishing. I'm sure I'll buy another family sport fishing boat again in the future but for now I'm going to focus on having fun fishing from a kayak. I've been interested in purchasing a Pro Angler for years. I'm interested in all advice on the Pro Angler do's and don'ts. I'd also love to meet more folks that fish from kayaks in Southern Maryland. I live on St. Jerome Creek so my plan is to start fishing my back yard as soon as my boat gets delivered. I'm looking forward to fish the skinny water I haven't been able to fish in my off-shore boat.

This forum seems to be a great place for info and I'll be trying to digest the data. Thanks to all in advance, and I look forward to seeing folks on the water. I guess I need to start outfitting the boat. First purchase, Lowrance chartplotter/sounder. I'm leaning towards the HDS-5 Gen2, structure scan would be nice but I have no idea how to rig that for a kayak.

Welcome Jambone! If your yak is delivered in time, there will be a Meet and Greet right in your backyard at Point Lookout on Nov. 9. Check that thread for info. There looks to be a bunch of people going and they are a great place to start.

          Hello, Jambone

I'm fairly new to the forum too. I also live in southern Maryland, and fish all over the lower portion of the state. As a matter of fact, I fished St. Jerome's Creek and the inlet yesterday. I also plan on showing up to the Meet and Greet at Point Lookout. Hopefully we can both make it, if not, let me know where you plan to fish and I'm sure I'll be able to make it more often than not.

I am going to consider on going and maybe bring another friend who is a long time kayak fisher. I have been mooching off him for years for kayak fishing. He's probably one of the most skilled fishing experts I've ever known.

I hope my yak was placed on order yesterday but I'm headed down to the shop late this afternoon to drop the cash on it. They said it should take about a week to deliver but I'd be very surprised. I thought about waiting for a '14 boat but I'm guessing there will be no differences with exception of the price. I can't wait to start outfitting the thing and getting some electronics on it.

I paid for my new PA 14, olive colored yak today. It's being shipped from Hobie and should be here late next week. I ordered the dolly, anchor trolley, and bought the Hobie livewell that the ship has had sitting around for a we while. I still need to give the electronics more thought. I will have to research Lowrance a bit more tomorrow. I hope to splash her next weekend and snag some fish.

The HDI gen2 elite 5 lowrance unit your considering would be great. I have on my pa12, an elite5 dsi. And im debating on switching to the HDI elite5. Because is has sonar and down scan. Not to mention the helpful gps to mark hot spots. But i may hold off and get the new power pole micro anchor when it comes out..

That would be great. She may be a little naked next weekend depending on when the boat arrives and if I can get any gear before then. What's the christening bubbly for a kayak, Sam Adams, a Bud?
