I have heard only good things with Gopro can I go wrong with this purchase? Is there a big improvement to get the GoPro+?

FYI - that's the regular price for the Hero3 White Edition. Target... Best Buy... most of them are selling it for that price. You might want to compare it to the Silver and Black Editions to make sure you're getting the features you want. For example, the White has a 5MP sensor, the Silver has an 11MP sensor like the Hero2, and the Black has a 12MP sensor.

I just picked up the Black edition for 329. at best buy. It can probably be had cheaper somewhere online. I only went that way because I plan to learn how to use the additional features. IMO if you just want a cool little camera to take good video on the yak, the white will do a great job as well.

i think 329 is probly the best price you'll see for h3black. they made some updates and already there is its replacement hero "3-plus" black, which is priced at 399. as i understand - now they are just selling off the h3 stock.

ps - even if you took $$$ completely out of the equation - there are a lot of ins/outs to cameras/features. choose wisely,..

They had them on sale for less than $250 the past couple days. Was thinking about getting that Gopro black for that price, but the reviews are not great. I've been looking for a deal on the Drift Ghost.

You should have a vision of what type and quality of video you want to do. Not to get too deep, your post production plays a part in camera choice also. I have a Go pro3 and an AEE camera and I want to upgrade from here. What got me started was watching kayak fishing videos and how they were shot and produced then I did research on the camera they were using on YOUTUBE and got a TON of information and after a few months of having my kayak I punched it. I started off with the Hero2 and upgraded to the H3. That drift ghost looks good for stills that can be extracted from live video and the looping feature. The downside may be that the ghost does not shoot 60fps in 1080p( which is great for slow motion footage.) Good luck on your choice lets us know what you decide.

I doubt I would want to use 60fps 1080p much even if I had camera that was capable. I don't think my computer could handle editing anything like that, and I don't plan on spending money on a computer that powerful anytime soon. I am not really that concerned with the absolute best quality videos at this point, so I was also even looking at maybe getting the ghost hd for $119 on sale right now, but then you have to add a waterproof case for another 50. By that time I might as well get the Ghost for $230 on the auction site, which would be pretty comparable to the h3 black. The h3 black surf edition for $240 last night wast pretty tempting, but I bet the prices drop even more soon as they liquidate the stock and start dropping prices on the newer version. There are even more alternatives to Gopro, like the contour and polaroid.

A lot of people complaining on the internet about build quality, battery life, poor customers service on the newer gopros. Not as many people using the drifts--I've seen a few complaints, but most of the reviews have been pretty positive overall.

I think amazon and best buy are pretty legit. I will post if I see them come up again, but they were BF specials.

i think the fact that gopro outsells every other camera by a huge margin, may have something to do with the reviews. Sell that much of anything and you will find people to complain about it... The question is, if the others sold as many as they do, how many would be complaining about them?

Any of these cameras are probably decent. Figure out what you want to be able to do and find the one that does it, and you like the best.

Yeah, I just looked again and deal is still live, but not available for shipping anymore. Some stores still have stock.

Approximately 1/3 of close to 1000 reviews on Amazon are 1 or 2 stars. 300 very negative reviews is more than just a few complaints.

The new + version has built-in wifi like the drift ghost, but still $400.
