My most productive new lure in 2013 was a Lucky Craft Waketail 85.

My overall top producing lure presentation was a safety pin style spinner arm with a 1/8 ounce jig and a zoom fat albert grub.

1/16 to 1/4 oz red Bass Assassin jig head with 4" gulp swimming mullets. I caught all kinds of fish on this combo...grey trout, speck, bluefish, schoolie striper, oyster toad, sea robin, flounder, ribbonfish, black seabass, reds.

The jig can be either 1/8 oz. or 1/4 oz. The grub can be a variety of colors but mostly I used silver, white or chartreuse.

I caught white perch, croakers and stripers with the above rig sometimes trolling but mostly casting to structure. Also hooked a few rays and either lost the rig or straightened the hook. Never landed a ray. Also lost quite a few grub tails late in the summer. I suspect bluefish were the culprits.

My next productive lure was a 1/2 oz. Rat L Trap in silver or blue with the same presentations described above.

Most productive striper lure would have to be a Lucky Craft 100sp in blue crack, it's my go to trolling lure.

Most productive panfish/perch lure would have to be Gitzits Micro little tough guy, rigged in tandem with some weight...just jigging off the bottom.

My most productive striper lure, as always for me, was a Rapala Glass Shad DD, in the color Glass Ghost. Right along with that lure, I almost always start out with a YoZuri Hardcore Drum, lipless crankbait, on the other rod, while trolling. The Hardcore Drum colors vary between Prizim and Painted Shad, depending on light. These are the lures I almost always start out with when trolling from the kayak in the Annapolis area. Frankly, the Hardcore Drum lure produces just about as much as the Rapala. I do swap out the hooks for VMC 4X hooks on just about all of the crankbaits I use in the bay. The hooks that come with the lures are a bit light for stripers. I have had stripers bend the original trebles. I use a red treble on the belly hook, of the same size as the original and a tail hook, one size larger than the original. I have just gotten used to that combination of hooks. It just seems to work for me.

I also regularly use a Lucky Craft Pointer Minnow, Deep Diver, in MS American Shad and a green version of that same lure. Both create a lot of flash. I like to use those on bright days.

Jighead with bass assassin, both straight and paddle tail. Varying weights, sizes, and colors either jigged or casted. I can cover pretty much any fishing situation on the bay with those.

Surprisingly, this year by far my most productive lure was a older model cheap BPS top-water plug....this older slimdog. Sadly this color is not made any more....neither was the pearlescent slimdog that was my second most productive lure! I'll keep swapping out hooks till they crack or sink! Blues, Redfish, Rockfish all on this plug.

It (Pompano) is used mostly by my son and wife but they LOVE it. Essentially aTarpon 120 for a lot cheaper and a great anchor trolley.
I'm not worried tagging my cheap yaks.....I catch plenty of fish and keep up with most the guys.

My best lure is the Luhr Jensen Krocodile Sureset spoons.Because you can troll, cast and jig with it.

My most productive lure for 2013 was a 3" Bass Assassin rigged on a Gamakatsu wide gap worm hook. I've caught just about anything that eats fish on it.

Just started striper fishing this fall and caught most of them on a double willow spinner bait with a 4" paddle tail grub(what else would you expect from a BASS guy).

My best bass bait this year was a 6" POWER BAIT worm in naturel color with a heavy hook to help casting with no added weight.

Pretty much sums up what I use for stripers too. I pour my own versions and modifications of the Bass Assassin lure series from 4" & 5" paddletails to 6", 7" & 8" straight and flat tails. Favorite colors chart/glitter, opening night and various version of white/pearl.

For me, it was the Berkley Power Bait Ripple Shad in Fire Tiger with a scrounger jig head. Snakehead, LBM, Catfish, White Perch, Yellow Perch and even a snagged Carp. Fairly weedless too.

Combined with Mirr-O-Lure soft plastics. Never took this off my line once I rigged this up in the summer. My go-to setup. Caught stripers and red fish.
