Gopro 3 Setup?

My wife got me a GoPro3 for Christmas this year and I have been searching the net for tips and tricks. Those of you who have been successfully using them, what settings, mounts, accessories, etc are you using? I'm relatively photography savvy but it's been awhile and I've never really played with video. Thanks!

I use 1080p 60fps and use the setting that allows for the instant that the camera is turned on the camera starts shooting video. Even though I have the remote, I don't use it because I mainly wear the gopro on a head mount. If I should use the camera on a camera mount I will use the remote. I use the chest mount for standing only. There are a ton of great videos on YOutube on Gopro cams. Enjoy Merry Christmas!

Its not so much a need but used as a preference and what is being shot. I use 1080 a lot for recording motorcycle riding and it makes a big difference in the clarity of the passing background, for example. So enjoy your camera and play around with what works best for you. MERRY Christmas.

That's a great link! Still not sure I fully understand it, but lots of good information. I'm going to bookmark that one and come back to it as I experiment!

My wife bought me one as well. I took advantage of the weather yesterday and to video in all modes. I then transferred to my Windows pc and was very disappointed. Most of the videos were choppy and stuttery. After some research, I found it was the windows media player that can not keep up with the frame rates. Gopro recommends the open source vlc media player http://www.videolan.org . I downloaded it and problem resolved. My personal opinion was the 2k was the best, but depending on where your going to be viewing your videos, me on my ipad or nexus 7, 720p is just fine. I converted the 2k and posted on a private you tube video. Playback was great. I had to remove the video as it had my license plate on it. I will post a video later and share with everyone. I will do a walkabout of my jackson cuda rigging next nice, warm day!

I have no idea how to edit or create videos but when I eventually do catch that elusive 50" rockfish, I want to capture myself in hysterics!

I think having a remote would be great so that I can mount it to the front and not have to reach up to hit record.

Indeed.
Just remember to attach a short leash to the GoPro in case it breaks from from its mount. I typically attach a 6-12 inch steel leader from the housing hinge to a pad eye.

For those of you who use a bow mount, do you find that your line hits the cam when fighting a fish? Do you use the suction cup mount, ram ball, or gear track?

I have a jackson cuda which came pre-installed with a gopro mount near the bow. I haven't used it yet, but I did do a test mount and video and found my fishfinder is in view, so I may move it. Based on my experience with the yak, it's more likely to get wet then interfere with fishing. Drops from the paddle and such. I am mounting gear track on the stern and will use a ram mount with extensions to get the behind shots. I plan on using both mounts to see which I prefer. The bow mount will get my better looking side of course!
