  • Bait ball lures?

So I was flipping around the BPS website over the weekend and saw the Live Target Bait Ball lures. Interesting concept...

I'm just wondering if this is one of those products that catches more fisherman than fish.

Has anyone thought about a similar concept on the bottom of their yak? Like a whole bunch of fish stickers? I've seen holographic teasers used offshore, but I wonder if you could take it a step further...

On another forum some guys were posting about how it caught fish for them.

    I'm not gonna buy it.

I think that lure was definitely designed to catch fisherman. The individual lures in that Live Target series very well may be good fish catchers but I suspect the reason they may or may not work will have more to do with profile and action rather than the "detail" Live Target has given them.

We as humans can look at that lure and "see" the multiple fish in the detail even if that lure is motionless. Fish, looking at that lure motionless, would not see those baitfish as we do. A fish looking at that lure motionless would not recognize that item as "living". It would not have the living "clues" that trigger a feeding strike.

I do think "eyes" on a bait combined with motion do give a fish the triggers to strike (in other words trick them into thinking this object is actually a living edible item) and perhaps multiple eyes can enhance that trigger for certain species at certain times.

quite interesting lure.....seems that no matter which way the prey looks at it (top/bottom/side/front/back) its gonna see eyes, one of the triggers it needs to see (even though their sight is not so great). i might look up and hook up one of these, always up for something new. Buy it, try it, if it works, great, if not, lesson learned. Danno

I'm going with the catches fisherman better also. The upper fish will be above the water line and mostly obscured by light deflection. If they want it to look like two fish it should be redesigned to show a different profile from the bottom, as the fish would see it.
