  • Gotta Fish: PLaces for 2014

What places are on your must fish list for 2014 , and why.

I have a few. Generally I would like to fish more tidal water this year as I've predominately always been a freshwater guy.

Magothy: I'm intrigued by early season combo of Yellow perch and pickerel. Usually heats up in Mid -late February. Never fished.
Roaches Run: Fished this once last spring and was skunked. Neat in DC City location.
Bay Bridge: Big Water. A little intimidating. Would love to get some stripers this year. Never fished.
Mattowoman: Fished once last summer briefly. Caught a nice LMB. Haven't yet gotten a snakehead. I think this is my year.
Mallows Bay; Seems like neat location to fish with all of the skeleton fleet of ships. Never fished.
Pocomoke: Fished this river for several days on camping trip a few years back. Did great. Lots of bass and pickerel. Nice scenery.
Mariners Park: Fished once briefly last summer, and did great. Anxious to go back!.
Dundee Creek: Grew up near there many years ago. I understand it's not as good as the olden days, but would love to give it a go. Never fished.
Susky Flats: Big water. Not sure where to go exactly. Never fished.

What's on your Hot List for 2014.

Triadelphia and Rocky Gorge since they are 5 minutes from my house. Usually fish for quick trips at sunset or sunrise.
Mattawoman - Snakeheads, Big Largemouths, beautiful scenery.
Mallows Bay - I've done terrible there, but need to give it another go.
Severn or South River - Need to catch some stripers.
Chain Bridge/Fletchers Boathouse in the spring. Never been there. Good chance at some kind of monster fish, blue catfish, stripers, snakeheads, bass, even walleyes, shad and perch.
Wilson Bridge. Never been. Want to catch some blue catfish.
Upper Potomac River. Can't get enough of those smallies. My favorite place to fish.
Would love to do a trip on the Pocomoke. Looks like a beauty of a river.

Good catch on Fletchers. I haven't done that one either I should have put it on my list. I don't know what is going on with the Tidal Potomac. This past year the whole system from DC down to Mattowoman was in a funk.

I'm with you Runnin... I want to get out and hit the Bay Bridge. It does seem a bit scary but I would really like to try fishing those pilings.

As for you all that want to hit Mallows Bay, just make sure you paddle out well past the fleet. Those ghost ships will rip the heck out of your hull.
The channel runs along the Maryland side of the river there. About 500 feet beyond the big steel derelict.
