  • Inquiry about braid

Hey guys I have quite a few pflueger reels that I use for my bass fishing. I have them set up with 12# fluorocarbon and some on mono. If I switch to braid on my favorite crankbait rod preferably medium cranks what's a good braid # to use versus my 12# fluorocarbon? Little confusing! Basically what's the # braid I want to use as an alternative to 12# fluorocarbon

I used to use 20-30lb braid on my cranking rods untill i switched to florocoated 15lb & 10lbp-line. I think 12lb dia is equal to 40lb braid.

Main reason why i switched from braid, i use to run braid with a leader. Im using rods with micro guides now and the knot for the leader has trouble passing though a 3mm hole. Calls for alot of backlash.

Have you tried the FG knot?

I have not. I will have to google what and how that knot is done.

OP.. using a 20lb braid will still have a smaller Diameter than the 12lb fl. and will be fine on the reel. You should get a little more capacity out of the reel and you could even do 15lb braid if you wanted.. It should cast a bit better as well.

What test leader were you using with the braid? If you're using 12# flouro now with no leader and having no issues I'd go with that as your leader and 15-20# braid as your main line. I have a Carrot Stix with micro guides that I use 30# braid and a 20# leader and ut passes through with an Albright knot. It's not really smooth through thr tip top, but I dont blow up. If you stay with a lower # leader you should be good!
