I have a reel I'm partial to but I would like to up the # on it. It's max is 12# I would like to try and put 17# on it. Any advice or recommendations on a good fluorocarbon that may not hinder the performance of the reel going over the max

I've taken a reel stamped with 6# - 175yds and put 175yds of 14# braid on it... no problems what-so-ever.2018 Hobie Outback (seagrass)

No problem. Put whatever you want on it. The only thing to keep in mind is castability. The heavier line you use the less far you will be able to cast and you will need heavier weight to cast effectively. Braid is sold by pound test but generally has a mono equivalent diameter listed in the package. Thus you can put just as much 20lb (8lb equivalent) braid on a reel as you can 8lb test mono. It will cast similarly to the lower test mono as well but give you more strength and less stretch than the mono.Hurricane Skimmer 128
