  • Favorite mono?

What's your favorite saltwater mono in 15-17 lb test. I've had some sucess with Maxima Chameleon but I'd like to hear other favorites. Anyone try Gamma copolymer?

    Thanks

Basic Trilene XL in 17# for me. I don't use much mono anymore for saltwater. I use mostly braid now for salt and Yo Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft (blend of fluoro and nylon) for fresh.

I use Trilene XL for fresh and saltwater but usually 8 to 12 pounds, not 15 to 17 pounds. I've been using it for years on my spinning and bait casters and I even use it as tippet on my fly line. I like its elasticity.

Sufix Siege in neon orange 17 lb. when we use mono on the charter boat. Easier to see and untangle when our customers cross up their lines. lol
For my own use I primarily now use mostly braid with a mono leader. I like the Sufix Performance braid also in neon orange.
For freshwater my favorite mono is Damyl Tectan.

I really like P-Line CXX . It's about all I buy these days. I like the moss green color.

That said, most of my fishing I've been using braid with a Flourocarbon leader.

Braid on my casting reels. And Trilene XL (nylon mono) on my spinning.

I use high test nylon mono as a leader for my braid.
Tried the flourocarbon leader, but with the lack of elasticity I found myself replacing it frequently for fear of losing a fish.
Between that and the cost I decided to go back to nylon.

Yeah my favorite mono is P-Line CX Premium, from what I experienced, it has the least memory and is pretty limp.

Mine is Hi-Seas Quattro. Excellent abrasion resistance and a higher breaking strength than advertised. I like the 12lb for spinning tackle and 20lb for live-lining. I usually use braid but there are a few things like top water or fishing very sticky areas (rockpiles in the Potomac) where I prefer straight mono for casting. I beats tying a leader on every few casts!
                Used to fish more.

My 2000 series and up all have braid. My 500-1500's have Berkely Vanish mono/fluoro hybrid

Chamaeleon was the hot leader for steelhead fishing back in the day in the PNW/Oregon (chamaleon leader/pearl-pink spin-n-glo w/ pink yarn or night crawler was my main bait) and I use it for walleye in stained lakes in Ontario (where it is absolutely invisible), but have not used it here..and it does have a slightly larger diameter than most other mono by weight.
On the bay/Potomac I use braid with no particular brand mono leader. I like a little stiffer line for topwater lures, especially walking types...it definitely cuts down on hang-ups while casting. I like flourocarbon, but hate to buy a whole roll just for leader. Spendy stuff to have 70% of it stay on the roll.
