  • Doggone Gulp...

I found a bargain @ today's fishing flea mkt in Glen Burnie....2 Gulp containers for $15, reg $20ea......& I was joking w/the seller that they always spill or leak from the container. Despite carefully putting then in my bag so they stay level, upon my arrival back home, yup, they got tipped over & leaked...happens all the time. When I fish I store em in a big Ziplock bag so they dont stink everything else up. Oh well!

I usually transfer a few outings worth into these containers. These are Ball Freezer Jars, 16 oz. I've tried a number of different containers to hold Gulp and they all leaked...except these. They fit perfectly into the cup holder of a Hobie Revo too.

Wow, thats a great idea JKay! Any problems when opening the jar? I've had the gulp liquid seal up the container tops and make it near impossible for me to open.

No problems at all getting the top off. If the container sits and bakes in the trunk of your car, just make sure that you open it over something that you don't mind it getting spilled on. The top may bulge a bit under pressure, but I've never has one pop off on me.

Yah, great idea. The fact that it fits in the drink holder makes it perfect. I'm gonna pick one of these up.

Not sure if these are new or not but I just picked up a couple from Dicks. Gulp needs to address the quality of their ziplock bags and screw on caps.

I know a big problem I had was I was cross threading while screwing the top on. So the problem was solved when I go counter clockwise first until it caught the first thread and then screw on.

I'm over gulp. In addition to leaky containers, I've picked up multiple gulp style baits in the bag package that were super soft. I've had baits that wouldn't last two fish before it was shredded. Add in the cost per unit and they've lost me as a customer until they fix leaky containers and the quality of the product. Even then probably won't go back... catching just as many fish on other soft plastics as I was on gulp.

I messaged berkley, the company that makes the gulp! product, last august with similar concerns. I suggested the addition of a rubber o-ring to the cap to prevent the leaks as well as molding the cap into a 7 to 10 tooth gear-like shape that would aid in easier opening. The reply i received noted some improvements they were working on but I have my doubts. I can't give the product up yet though. The mullets are flounder candy and the shrimp work well for about anything else I target in the bays and rarely have to rebait my hooks with it. So for the time being I think I'll invest in those ball jars JKay suggested.

I am a fan...Gulp works...the juice is something else- it leaks through just about anything- I got one of those liquid bait containers...it leaked- I just use the big jars they come in and pour the juice from the bags in when the bluefish chew up a bunch...and keep the jars upright-

That juice really is something else. I had some leak on my epoxy paint cement floor in the garage. That paint as held up to motor oil, antifreeze, you name it. The Gulp! Juice stripped and bubbled it up better that any paint remover ever could have.

I was tired of driving home smelling like gulp and was determined to find something that did not leak...I did it was a small glass jar with a plastic lid that had cocktial sauce in it. I don't know the brand but I bought it at GIANT in the sea food department. I used most of last summer through now and it has never leaked. When I opened a new pack of gulp I would put the baits in the jar the pour in the juice no more problems. Until reading that everyone has had the same problem with gulp leaking I did not realize what a great idea that little jar was. I will be looking for more of them tomorrow, if I find the same jar I will post a pic and where I got it. I will also be buying a few pounds of shimp to help me empty the contence.

I keep all my Gulp jars in one gallon Zip lock bags. Those blasted jars leak like a sieve! Terrible design. Gulp needs something better for baits that can cost upwards of $20 bucks. I hope a Berkley guy is reading this post.
