  • Fishing at Widewater on Potomac river

Just south of Lock 15 there's a nice protected area of water. Wonder if anyone had fished there? Also what kinds do you fish for?

That's the C&O Canal, not the Potomac.
Widewater holds some nice sized LMB, lots of bluegill and crappie. Real peaceful place to fish.

Its a few hundred feet, from the parking lot across from Angler's Inn, to the put in at the canal. Not a long drag but its over a heavily eroded path which might be difficult for a cart.

It looks like a beautiful place to paddle. They did a bunch of work on the tow path there not long ago.

I've fished there before. It's LMB water mostly. There are some noce sized bluegills also. Towpath traffic makes parking across from Anglers tough on weekends.

Do you need a tidal license to fish Widewater?

No freshwater. It is actually a spot where the C&O canal widens into a small lake that runs along towpath.
