the flats? arent we a little early? fishing doesnt pick up there till the first week of april and even then using lures/flys is spotty at best most guys are catching them in early april on herring.
There's a lot of deep water around the edges, ya never know what will show up when. Signs of big channel cats already in nearby waters, bass are usually close behind them....Have had many productive days in mid March in the past...just doing some scouting to see whats happening. Can't catch em if you ain't out looking for em.
I was planning on hitting a few spots on the Potomac or jigging a piling or two, but this rain I think will have things too jacked up for the weekend. Maybe next weekend.
BTW this is the M&G weekend, we got to get those things rolling for next month!

Yes, it is! My wife reminded me! Sheesh... Winter sux.
BTW, regarding rain & muddy waters... yes, rivers will be a thick shake but the bay is different. It's only a shake on the top 2 feet or so. Further below the surface it won't be as thick. I've caught many stripers bouncing a Hopkins along the bottom when I couldn't see it four inches below!!

Went out to Tuckahoe creek today after watching the video on Chesapeake Light Tackle, left the yak at home though, caught a couple of nice yellow perch thanks to the gentleman who gave me some minnows, even trade off cause he got to keep the fish I caught. water levels where really high which made it tough to spot the deep channel.
met some buddies from P&S at spsp and did some beach fishing, i cant call it surf fishing but it is sandy. i got nothing but some got nice rock in the mid 20" range not the big ones yet but its going to be a good spot to drift around some bws on a bottom rig in a couple weeks just stay out of lead range
As I understand, it's still C&R for the Bay (including SPBP) area. It's OK to keep stripers 28" or greater starting Apr 16. After May 16, you can keep 18" or greater, right?
Story is a bit different for Susky, Potomac and Ocean.
