  • Nautical Chart Overlay for Google Earth

Thought you guys might like this while planning out the seasons fishing locations. These work as a sort of plugin for Google Earth so that you can overlay a nautical chart of a location (US and territories only) and get a better feel for distances and even mark grid coordinates of structure that might be hard to find otherwise. Its a NOAA special project that you can find here :http://specialprojects.nos.noaa.gov/...essraster.html

This is the download link to the plugin: http://nosimagery.noaa.gov/rnc/NOAA_RNCs.kmz

It's pretty simple to use. Just download to your desktop or whatever and launch Google Earth using the NOAA_RNCs file. When you zoom in on your location click the edge of the chart you want to use. Then click the highlighted link that says collarless or collared preview. That's it!

So far it works great and I've only had one issue where the chart wasn't available to download on the server. You can also find specific charts by number using the drop down menu on the left. Getting accurate grid coordinates for locations is priceless. I can't wait to see how accurate the charts are compared to real life.

No downloading, plugins, or selecting maps; just zoom in and out.
