          Just to clarify, it was finding powder residue on him to begin with that probably prompted to get the search warrant. When they found the gun they probably matched it through testing. They wouldn't however have taken the residue off his body and said "Do you own a Smith and Wesson?" That just isn't possible. A bullet on the other hand could strongly suggest the manufacturer because of the rifling marks.

          Either way, it is good to hear it was not a random shooting on the water. I knew that whole situation didn't add up at all. I'm surprised it took so long to publicly announce that it looked self inflicted.
