  • Camping on the Mattawoman?

I'm camping at Smallwood park this Saturday and fishing the creek that evening and Sunday and was wondering if anybody had any experience with that part of the Mattawoman or if I should just drive to the other side and launch out of Slavins for better fishing. Any help's appreciated.

Slavin's is much more kayak friendly. You'll have wind and wave protection. As for fishing, there's bass everywhere on the Mattawoman.

There's some sand dune islands in the upper part. A kayak can also launch at Mason Springs and come down the creek.
