  • Question for Hobie Outback owners

I am seriously thinking about getting one.

A question..... How stable is the thing when you have to pee and can't make landfall ??? Can you get on your knees to pee out the drive hole ??? Can you kneel on the seat to pee off the side ???

Yeah, gotta think about everything before I pull the trigger.

First hobie i purchased is the revo 13, like it for the speed,no hull slap ,quietly cut thru Water.then hobie sport so that my daughter can use it, this introduced me to the outback class, said this bec the sport is the miniature version of the outback, now i settle for one yak, its the outback and not looking back eversince.

In short, yes. You can kneel and pee through the mirage drive hole. If it is relatively calm you can stand without a problem. Sometimes peeing off the side is tricky because it moves your center of gravity to the side. The pics in the attached thread show how easy it is to stand in an Outback.

There is more benefit to standing than just peeing. Fighting fish is pretty fun too. And standing allows for you to sight cast to fish in shallow water.

I always carry a cutoff powerade bottle to pee into. I usually kneel facing the back of the yak to do it.

I forgot a bottle on a trip this week, good thing the PA is stable enough to kneel and pee of the side!

You guys have to do all that? I just pull it out and hang it over the side.

I currently have a Ride 115 and I am always standing in it. I've gotten very used to its stability and was wondering if the Outback was anything close.....or if its more like a Tarpon where it is fairly easy to turtle...

I would say it's closer to the Ride. I owned a Tarpon before I purchased an Outback and the difference is night and day. I would say my prayers before I would lean over and grab some tackle out of the back of the Tarpon. In the Outback, I would do backflips in the thing with confidence...if I could do backflips!

+1 to being more similar to a Ride. If you have any balance or coordination at all you can stand in an Outback with no problem.

Stability isnt the problem with standing in the outback IMO.
Its stable enough to stand but theres really no flat areas to stand on except the center 8" hatch and on the sides of it and that area is the same level as the seat making it hard (at the least for me) to get up. I thought about add a strap to the front to use for pulling myself up but never got around to it. Kneeling is no problem. Ive crawled up to get things out of the front hatch many times. Plus its easy to sit side saddle on it but have never tried to pee that way...lol

Ken you asked me for some pics of my anchor trolley setup to see how far forward it was.
Sold the outback today but figured you may still want to see how it was setup and I got some pics today.
