  • Mallows Bay - Tues June 3 - any interest

The wind looks calm tomorrow and the chance of thunderstorms starts in the afternoon. I am considering a morning trip to Mallows Bay. Is anyone else interested?

I wish I did not have to work! Good luck, what are you targeting?

      I'm with Dave

Would love to join you John but I'm working too. Yesterday, anything with treble hooks got fouled easily. Be sure to bring a gold bladed chatterbait a spinnerbait and some soft plastic craws or worms.

        Dave -

I am a saltwater angler and am highly inexperienced at typical freshwater fishing (LMBs, snakeheads, catfish, etc). Whatever I catch will be from good luck rather than skill and targeting. I don't own much typical freshwater tackle. Dan Marino mentioned that he caught fish on a Redfish Magic spinner with a white plastic. I will try one of those. I do not own a chatterbait. I may throw some frogs, some crayfish, some Senkos, a popper or other hard plastic floating lure, and some paddletails.

On last year's trip I caught nothing out by the ships, but caught several species on the feeder creek. I will have two lighter rods with me to try back there again.

I welcome your suggestions to improve my odds.

We went out towards the ships and hugged the shoreline to the right. Then we fished around the ships closest to shore. I had two bass come from inside one of the ships. My son's snakehead was right next to a ship. You should at least get some action with the redfish magic spinner bait and a white or chart trailer. The water was stained so vibration and flash help a lot. We did not try any topwater baits but I would have tried if we stayed longer.

Here is my trip report from my last trip out to Mallows:

I think that Redfish Magic is a good starting place to figure how active the fish are tomorrow (it will catch cats, snakeheads and bass). The other lures on your list are a good choice as well. When I was fishing that day I was pitching a jig with a craw into tight spots around laydowns, floating mats and other hard cover.

Spend a little time on that outer edge of the debris field with the Redfish Magic, a monster blue cat may try to take your rod away from you.

            Good luck!

If you dont go, you wont know, and you got to have bait in the water.
