Nice choice there MetroMan. That bow looks like it can tackle some pretty big waves.

Way to go! Always exciting to get a new yak. Let us know what you think of it after you have been out in it a couple of times.

Thanks guys. I did some rigging this evening. Nothing heavy. Just two scotty bases up front for camera mounts. I also installed the rudder. I paid to have the rudder installed, but it ships without the rudder actually being installed...makes sense, right? The cables are pre-installed, I just had to attach the rudder bracket and control lines. They leave the rudder bracket uninstalled to avoid damage during shipping.

Maiden voyage is tomorrow. I will be sure to report back as I get more seat time.

The Viking helmet and a bull antler horn instead of the life jacket whistle would be awesome...lol... Nice yak... Congrats on the purchase.

Might just have to get a Viking helmet lol.

For the record, that vid won't play on mobile devices due to the music.

This link should work on mobile devices

I have a couple of questions if you would be so kind? What did you choose for a seat? Can it be fitted with a "lawn chair" type of seat? Does the rudder stow away similar to like Hobie does it?

                      Terry,

As of right now, I am sharing my seat between the two kayaks. It is a Skwoosh Big Catch. It will take me a few trials to see if it truly works well for the Viking. The angle of the seat area of the Viking is different than the Torque, so the seat has to be adjusted quite differently. After a few more paddles, I'll know for sure if this seat will fit the bill. This Sunday, my wife is going out with me on the water (first time ever for her). She'll be in the Torque, and Im gonna paddle the Vik without a seat.

I highly doubt a lawn chair style seat would work on the Viking. The seat area is molded in a round shape, and sits you down low to maintain a low center of mass/gravity.

The rudder does not stow away like a hobie rudder. It would be nice if it could retract, as we all know there are certain situations when you can damage a rudder. It just sits there all the time. It is on a bungee, so that if you hit something while moving forward, it folds up. Thats fine for moving forward, but it would do you no good if you bang into a piling or something. On my way back, I stopped by a rock pile and I was able to flip the rudder up by hand. If you push it up by hand, it will stay up. Not sure if it was designed to operate that way, but it worked for me.

They should include one with purchase. Might be good advertising.

Nice ride Metro, I have an Ocean Kayak Ultra 4.3 which was built in New Zealand, they build great boats down there, some things are similar to my yak , like the flaired splash protector in front of cockpit. That center tackle pod is awesome! Enjoy!...........Jack
